Actually, although TV overstates the case (as usual), it is actually possible to recover data that appears to have been lost using image processing techniques like deconvolution. I've seen things like completely blurred number plates which are totally unreadable restored to a point where the plate is clear, for example.
I actually often incorporate deconvolution into my workflow now, as it actually offers genuine "sharpening" (as opposed to USM, which is really just an optical illusion). I voted for better dynamic range, although I'd also be tempted by a brigher, larger viewfinder with interchangeable focussing screens - I really miss my old split image finder when I'm shooting in low light and the AF starts to hunt. Cheers, Tim. |

Greater dynamic range, hands down out of the listed choices. After that, I'd like smaller sensor sites (pixels) while maintaining low noise. Then I wish lens based anti-shake technology was discontinued in favor of camera body based image stabilization. Finally, I want the totally meaningless (in digital) ISO setting replaced by a sensor gain adjustment with smaller increments. Digital has matured enough to shed the unnecessary vestiges from film and come into its own.

Rather than selecting 1 of these, I would want to rank them instead. I don't have a dSLR yet, so I would have to say:
1. More dynamic range 2. Other - the ability to view from a position other than immediately behind the camera. 3. Less (image) noise. 4. Other - less (acoustical) noise. My existing camera is acoustically quiet enough, but I would like something quieter than existing dSLRs. 5. Lighter weight (than most existing dSLR/lenses; I like the heft of my present camera.) 6. More speed than my present model; existing dSLR models would be fast enough for what I want. 7. Better color/white balance, though existing dSLRs are already quite good in this respect. 8. More megapixels - 8 megapixels is enough for what I want. 9. More weight - Hell, no! |

I think all the poll options will be improved with any new dslr offering. I'd like Canon to add either direct access to ISO control wither via a dial or buttons or assignable in the custom functions - without sacrificing C.Fn04-1.

OK...I hear what you are saying here and I agree to a point. But excellence IS attainable but you then have to keep moving with it to keep it. I didn't express that very well but I think you get it.
But I think that the original subject of the thread is still mis-directed. Mostly, the equipment is much better than we are.....yet many see the way to improve as getting more camera features. I don't think that is true .It is within the photographer that growth is really unlimited.......DaVinci would not have painted a better Mona Lisa with a more modern brush.....cheers....Bob |
