Thanks for the input. I really want to have more control manually, and what Kelly has been teaching us fits right in with that goal. Again, I appreciate you're taking time.

Kelly,
If I had reread your post the first time, I would have had no trouble attaching it to the message. That's the method I used. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks to all who posted help. It is greatly appreciated. Joe

Great shot Joe. I haven't seen a thing worth taking around here yet. Instead have grabbed some of my shots I have taken throughout the years that highlight the sky. All the sunsets have been taken of the Caribbean sky. Please critique everyone.

Here are the stats for each shots:
#1 - F/4.5 1/1000 ISO 100
#2 - F/5.6 1/800 ISO 80
#3 - F/5.6 1/500 ISO 80
#4 - F/5,6 1/200 ISO 100
#5 - F/8 1/1000 ISO 100
#6 - F/4.5 1/100 ISO 100

I really like the Zebra shot! I'm sure you can come up with some clever caption for it. The exposure looks good, and you caught a funny moment. Try converting it to Black and White and see what happens.

Raz - 2 and 5 work for me quite well! I like the fact that you incorporated the birds into the shot in #5 - although if you wanted to concentrate on the sunset, perhaps you should find a way to get rid of the person in the shot. At least for me, any time a person is in the photograph, I automatically assume that he/she is the subject of the photograph. If that was your intention, then I am misreading you.

Thanks Nic. No you didn't misread what I was trying for. I really didn't want Jon in it and I do know how to crop him out. I did have another one without him that I considering posting but I didn't like how the birds had turned out in that one. I'll crop the pix and post it again. Thanks again for the advice.

Digitalbh, Watch your aperature (f stop), and focus. The whole thing is a bit fuzzy. I love the pastel colors in this type of sunset.

Hey Raz thanks for the feedback. Your pictures want me to travel, and that will be shortly, next Thursday in fact. I liked all your shots, and I definitely agree with Nic about the cropping. Was this late evening sun? The soft golden colors really enhance the total shot. Thanks for posting these.

Barb,
I'm glad you got that attachment figured out and submitted your photo. I fumbled around with my submission my first few tries. I wondered if you used a tripod for this shot. I started using one recently and have noticed that it really makes a difference with sharpness. I also use a cable release to further reduce the amount of vibration. I liked the sky colors too. Joe

Since I was unable to get a sunset last night, I decided to offer Venice along the Grand Canal. Settings were: 1/90 at F 9.5 with an exposure bias of +1. The camera was set to Auto, the one that offers creative override, and the ISO was 400. Focal length was 28mm.

Here is a picture I took from Assisi in Italy looking down on the newer part of town. It was an early morning shot. The low light has similarities with sunset shots too. I handheld it, and because of the ISO, it's pretty grainy, but I liked the result. The stats were: 1/10 at F 4, and the ISO was 3200 plus Exposure Bias was +1. It was Auto and the Focal Length was 40 mm.

This was taken tonight a little after 8:00, viewed through the open roof of my SUV - I was standing on the seat! ISO 64, F 8.0 1/40. Within a few minutes the sun had set. I am still working on reducing the print size for posting.
