With all of the increases in picture theft and copyright infringements, I was curious to know if anyone has a clue as to how safe SmugMug and Photobucket are. I currently have an account with SmugMug and have the right click feature disabled on all pics, but is there any way around this? The pics I have up right now are not all great, but if I ever get something stunning, I'd hate to have it stolen.
Thanks in advance! __________________

Not sure on SMUG or the settings it uses. but usually anyone can find the picture in the browsers cache folder. And in some cases you can save the whole web page using internet explorer File save as and select "Web Page Complete HTML" and this will save all the pictures if more then one on the page.

As do I. It's simple if you know how. Even with the right click disabled.
For example..... I would have made it neater, and cropped it, but I am at work, and not at home, so no photoshop or any other editing tools. ![]() |

It is rather easy, and it doesn't resort to screenshots. Right-click disable is like serial numbers in software: it stops the oppertunistic fraud, but if they want your images they are going to get them.

I'm not talking about taking a screen shot (too obvious) I know another way that i can drag & drop/right click.
@ Killjoy. I sent you a PM regarding this... |

The best way to protect photos is to only post small size (360x540, or less) and extra compressed (70% works for me best as it also reduces the download time). Also add large copyright logo or even a full banner across the middle, this does however make the image not as nice to look at but harder for someone to make it usable.
Also I use my own server so I have at least better control over the pictures and no need to worry about the type of content. Also I can password protect pages so only those that you allow access have it. |
