documentation has a dual purpose. i shot a friends audio system for insurance reasons a few years ago. his house was broken into and it was all lost, or so we thought. he had prints made up and taken them to all the local pawn shops. he got all his stuff back in 2 days and the crooks were nabbed.

You're right.

A couple of years ago we lost my wife's grandmother. She was dear to us both and honestly most of the photos that were recent were ones I had taken digitally.

Definitely take it to heart and get some photos of family....take them often... even kids are changing almost daily as they grow.

I'm about two years into my "digitization of the family albums" project. I think I might be somewhere near halfway through all the old documents, photos, and letters from the wars. Not to mention the challenges of figuring out how to scan/photograph (well) the insides of Bible covers where the previous generations tended to record family members' births and deaths.
