I found a book on digital photography (The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby), and wondered if I could adapt some of the info in it to be used with film photography.
I know the info on W/B, RAW, JPEG, and memory cards won't be of much use with film, but what about info on setting up shots, lenses, and such? I figure it all pretty much is covered by the same umbrella of photography, with the exception of the media used for image capture. Thanks for any replies I get, Ed If this needs to be moved due to being in the wrong place, please put it in the correct place. __________________

Why not? The principles of photography have not changed. With film you have to commit to a full roll of film at a given ISO whereas in digital you can change it on fly. If you understand light and exposure it works the same for both media.

If that's a book you're being given or is a bargain basement price, sure, you can make it work. Scott Kelby's books center around digital a lot more than technique, though, so it wouldn't be my first choice.
If you're shopping for a good photo book that can migrate you from film to digital later, that's probably not the best choice. If I was shopping for a film book, I'd start hitting used bookstores, either online or in person. The older (pre-2000) books are pretty inexpensive and still relevant to film. The techniques you learn with film can be carried to digital much easier than the other way, imo. |

I find that the newer "digital" books tend to focus more on the digital aspect, including post processing, than they do on the basics of exposure, depth of field, and composition. I'd rather buy a book on exposure and composition and another on post processing. One book that covers all seems to gloss over some areas in order to cover more material. JMO

I find an excellent book that covers the basics of film with a dabble of digital thrown in is. It is kind of backwards from what you are asking about.
