Some of the lenses are pretty obvious once you compare optical formula diagrams. Some examples:

Nikon 70-300 f/4-5.6G (old model) = Tamron 70-300
Pentax 12-24 f/4 = Tokina 12-24 f/4
Pentax 10-17 fisheye = Tokina 10-17 fisheye
Konica Minolta/Sony 11-18 = Tamron 11-18
Konica Minolta 28-75 f/2.8 = Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
Olympus 70-300 = Sigma 70-300
Yes, but Canon boasts that they keep that stuff inside. None of those lenses are Canon. I was saying, maybe Noink and others did that, but Canon "suppose" to be doing their own design and manufacturing.

Until recently even Canon compacts used Sony sensors. I wouldn't be surprised if they have outsourced lenses in the past, even if they might not be doing so right now at this very moment.

I recall seeing something that Canon filters were made by Hoya, or at least, designed by Hoya, but I don't remember where I read that.

That maybe so, but I think with lenses, Canon keeps it in house. AFAIK. BTW, Canon filters are one of the worst ever, I think it may be a Tiffen LOL

Oh right, it was Tiffen. Tiffen's the only manufacturer of a regular 77mm hot mirror filter, and it was available under the Canon name.

Yes, they also make most of the Quantaray filters.

Anyhow, in an attempt to get this thread back on topic, read this:

And that's what apple's camera would look like if they got in the camera business, huh?

I'm with Songman45. I fail to see how it's relevant to cameras that don't exist.

In that case I think you may need glasses, brian: this thread's title/subject is "Apple". The title/subject is not "Apple's non-existent cameras". So it's not about cameras, but about Apple. The 17-inch MacBook Pro is very much Apple. And it's THE digital tog's favorite laptop by a mile.
So a brandnew review of a brandnew MBP model in a forum thread titled "Apple" is oozing with relevance!

Apple users don't read. They absorb and simply experience the world as its brought to them.

They would do exactly the same thing as a Nikon or Canon, but cost a lot more. They will just market it so people will think they are buying something better.

Like dch' speculative prejudice isn't.

Prejudice? I just applied their same business model as they use with their computers. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Video and photography are 2 entirely different beasts, reya.

Learn about photography by 1) reading as much as you can about it, on this and other forums, and in books, and 2) by asking pertinent questions about it, and 3) by applying and refining the knowledge you gather in practice, practice, and still more practice.

Have fun!
