Another vote for Panasonic TZ3 (now PZ5) With it's superb 28-280mm Leica lens it is capable of superb results.
I wanted a compact P&S that I could carry most of the time when it was not convenient to lug my Canon 30D gear around. The only thing I had to get used to was the use of the LCD screen (3") instead of the traditional viewfinder. For a short while I did try a Canon Powershot G9 - but it didn't fit my bill because it can hardly be classed as a "compact" camera and the quality of the TZ3 lens is more than comparable. __________________

thanks so much everyone for the photo examples of what these P&S camera's can do!!
Athena, I love the photo's that the G7 and G9 can take, but the camera is a bit too large for what I'm wanting it for... I've got the Kodak Z740 which takes amazing pictures and couldn't see buying a new camera similar to that one... I'm looking for more compact, easily pocketable... |

From another Nikon DSLR owner - Got a Canon SD1100 IS and love it. Really compact and many features - even histograms and highlight warnings!
My wife got one and I was so impressed I got one a week later - same rationale as you and my old Kodak DC4800 was just too big. Check it out - PM me and I will give you pricing and the source if you like it ![]() |

Interesting photo, ver. Is there a special reason you used the high shutter speed?
