You probably change them as the situation changes, but what would you say the mode you use most often.
For me, it used to be Evaluative, but since I got a new cam I put it on CWA as the default. What about you. Note: Different brands may have different terminology, but I'm sure it's not hard to figure out which is which. If unsure, please ask. __________________

I usually use Evaluative (or Matrix on my F100) - It just works for me.
If I use Manual exposure i may switch to CW or partial (20D) / spot (F100) |

I tend to use Evaluative mode most frequently for general landscape work. When I'm shooting macro or close up work or scenes with difficult lighting I'll opt for spot metering.

I don't really know how it "evaluates" but I leave it at Evaluative, since it seems to do a good job.

Center weighted or spot for the most part. Occasionally I'm in Matrix metering.

It just made more sense to give the subject more weight compared to other elements in the photo. I did the same when first got the 5D. Put it on Spot (the 20D doesn't have one) for few days then reverted back to Evaluative.
That's very interesting. Been debating that even before getting the new cam. Might give it a try. |

It takes all the scene into account. It's a bit more complicated than that but will leave it to the experts here to give more details.
I'll post a quote from a Canon manual soon (if I can copy from a PDF file). Edit: No can do, Adobe Reader won't let me copy. And too lazy to type it ![]() |

I keep switching from spot to matrix and back, depending on the situation. Photographing people in difficult light: spot. Otherwise: matrix.

I agree with Loa. Lately I'm finding that I've been shooting Parties more then anything else and I've been using Spot on my D80. For landscapes or mostly anything else I'm in Matrix.

So far, Evaluative/Matrix and Spot are pulling head to head (15 vs. 14). Very surprising, thought Spot will be the least used.

Spot most of the time as I usually shoot
birds, quite often in flight, and would rather blow out the sky but see the bird, otherwise its center weighted.Cheers David __________________
