Kodak Instamatic with 126 cartridge film. Also had the flash cubes! The first pictures I remember taking were when we visited Disneyland.

My first camera was Brownie Holiday, used 127 film and cost about five dollars in 1956. Still have it and several other older cameras in storage.

Agfa Karat. Purchased used in 1945. Had to load my own film cassettes because Agfa had, at that time, stopped producing film in their unique cassette.

When I was 10 or so, I upgraded to a Kodak Disk camera. This camera was WAY better because it had a built-in flash, so I didn't get as frustrated using this one. It also had a cool 2x "zoom" feature on the front of the camera. You rotated the little square lens unit in the front of the camera to either "normal" or "2x". This kept me in pictures until I was about 19 or 20, when I got my first "real" camera - a Canon Rebel with a 35-80 zoom and a speed light 160. I took lots of pictures with this camera and greatly appreciated the increased image quality over the Kodak disk camera! When I was about 23 or 24, I purchased the Canon A2E, a 35-135 USM, a Speedlight 430EZ, a quick flip bracket and off-camera shoe. Wow, my pictures were really cooking now! My next purchase was a Canon Powershot S50 in 2003. I took WAY more pictures since it was digital, but it never performed like my A2E (no surprise there). Autofocus doesn't work indoors, the shutter delay seems to be about 1.5 hours, but the pictures were pretty good - when the kids were still in the frame when the camera eventually got around to making the exposure... Finally, getting fed up with the Powershot, I just purchased a Canon 40D, a 24-105L lens, and replaced the 430EZ speedlight with a 430EX. Here we go! All of the fun of the digital restored with the features, fast focusing, and high frame rate of the A2E, but with much improved image quality. Somehow, given the history, I don't think this is my last camera purchase... Eric |
