Generally, I know how WA lenses work. However I'm perplexed with these photos.
The house is straight, that I'm sure of, but in these photos, it's not. Yes I was close, which makes the house tilted, but not that tilted, imo. What do you think. [info: FF camera, with a 17-40 lens] Pics to follow. __________________

Ahh there they are! By FF I presume you mean Full Frame? If your shooting at 17mm I'd say they were remarkably straight. Doesn't help that they're not level though aam!

While I use distorted perspectives for effect on a regular basis - - - the distortion on these 2 images does no justice in my view and does not come across artistically to me. That is just my opinion of course. If the buidling in behind that slopes down to the left is the one you are referring to as being a straight roofline, then the perspective distortion will be caused by it being on an angle to the doorway wall (left side farther away from the camera lens than the right side) and this will not be correctable by normal means without further distorting everything else.
The distortions are very easy to resolve in Photoshop (if you have it) with the Filters > Distort > Lens Correction filter. It took several different corrections to fix these - including firstly straightening the image, Vertical Perspective, Remove Distortion, and then Horizontal Perspective to shift the camera horizontally on its axis - then scaling it in to crop in to fill the frame. You will loose some of the image doing this. Here are the corrected versions: ![]() ![]() |

Hey Aam, was that what you were looking for? I thought you had the feeling that the lens was producing more distortion than you were expecting.
My own 16-35 on a 5D produces pretty wild results! |

Hi Mcbit. Are you the same Mcbit in CTF, if so, then you have nice entries there.
Rob has some good points there. However, I'd like to point out that the building behind the door is parallel to the door and fence. |

Hi aam, yep one and the same and thanks for the compliment. Agreed about Robs comment although I normally sort out perspective (if I feel like it) using free transform and the skew tool. Mmm I'll take closer look at those pics; the rear building almost looks like it has pitched roof! How are you finding that 1dsIII after the 5D? I'm thinking of buying one after I escape from my current location. ![]() |

Cool. Nice to see you here too.
Personally, I'd like to do evey/almost everything in camera, so software correction is not an option (unless it's minor). As for the 1Ds, the more I use it the more I like it. Also, surprisingly, the weight and size are very nice. Edit: Btw, Mcbit, I left you a comment there. |
