Second Photocamel Get Together - Amsterdam 26 - 27 July 2008

After the success of the first Photocamel Meet and Greet in Amsterdam in 2007, we are planning another get together this year.

This post is to formally announce the get together for the weekend of 26 - 27 July 2008, again returning to Amsterdam.

Planning is starting now and in addition to some photography in Amsterdam, we'll probably be visiting some surrounding areas and including some relaxing social activities as well.

I might have to order a classic thong or two. In Amsterdam it won't look out of place (though it wouldn't be pretty).

I second Rense's call for a camera strap.

Druk duimen for a really hot weekend then I can get there too. The date clashes with the 10kms Rieslinglauf which my wife runs in - and I go along to support. The race takes place on the side of a hill through the vineyards in full sun. She will only cancel if the temperatures are likely to go over 25C.

I'm hoping for 30 degrees then (I'm always hoping for 30 degrees though, so nothing against your wife).

Just arrived back home in The Netherlands this morning, so I'll get cracking on all the arrangements over the next few days (scouting accommodation today) and post details along the way.

Some accommodation options for anyone coming to Amsterdam for the weekend (I'll have my car too if anyone wants to come and will fly into Schipol):

Bilderberg Garden Hotel @ 209 Eu for 2 nights (only 3 Hot Deal rooms left)
Hotel City Garden @ 224 for 2 nights (plenty of rooms available)
Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken @ 228 for 2 nights (3 rooms left)
NH Carlton Amsterdam @ Eu 219.30 for 2 nights (5 rooms left at that price, but plenty at up to 248 )

I like the look of the NH Carlton, but I know nothing about hotels in Amsterdam. Anyway, here's the info from the booking.com website:

The NH Carlton Amsterdam is a 4 star deluxe hotel ideally located in the centre of Amsterdam, nearby the famous Floating Flower Market, Munt Tower and main shopping streets.

The hotel offers 218 bright bedrooms, 9 comfortable meeting rooms for groups of 10 up to 150 delegates, an Italian specialty restaurant named "Caruso", "Grand Cafe Il Girasole" and a private garage.

I'll be booking accommodation tomorrow, location depending on feedback from others, but my default would be for the NH Carlton.

Further information on a plan for the weekend will follow soon.

Now only 4 rooms left at that price.

"Sound proofed rooms" - they are obviously expecting us to have gone "window shopping..."

I seem to remember the Carlton as the place we all used to meet up before heading off for a Thursday night in Amsterdam donkey's years ago when I worked in Haarlem. Seem to remember it as being a nice place.

Now I just need to sort out transportation: car accommodation costs more than people accommodation! I'd forgotten that "the neighbours" hated cars so much....
