Default Which camera to use?

Hi every one.....I need to buy a camera to accomplish this pictures someone took for me. This were taken with a Nikon D-80. But that camera is almost $1000 dollars, is there another camera I can buy to accomplish that look?

Its not just the Camera, its the Lens as well.

The best question, I can ask you is what price Range are you talking about?

How many Mega Pixels are you requiring? The D80 is a 10 MP camera, my brother has a Casio 12 MP P&S. It is a nice camera, can take very nice pictures. Any more information you will probably ask, I dont know. You can search out this camera in any of the Larger Photo Houses. Like:

B&H
Adorama
Abe's of Maine
Ritz

And, dont forget any of the discount houses like Best Buy, PC Richards and of course Wallmart.

I'm sure there are a lot more and the people who are much more expert then I will start to post there messages very soon. So, ponder what I had mentioned and just standbye a few and see what happens.

Thanks Mark....

I actually have no idea what do I need.....I just thought maybe the Nikon D-80 used for this was too much for the job.....

This guy took this pictures for me, now I have 250 new styles, but I'll keep having more, so I just wanna get my own camera to take this pictures......so, I need to know which camera might work to accomplish those kind of pictures.....

Thanks again for the answer....

A point and shoot may actually do a better job. Most of them have superior macro performance than do the larger sensor cameras......Bob

Bob,
I just came back to this thread to check up, and as I was reading your post I just said I wonder if its not just the Camera but the Photographer, and I agree with you for the capabilities of the new advanced high tech levels of the P&S.

Just like in any Sport, the guys who do know are the ones who make it look real easy. Thats why, you have people buying the same clothes, the same sneakers or even the same cars as to be able to get to a better level by imitation and not skill. What watch does Tiger Woods wear? Its in the Ads if he truely does where the Tag Hauer LOL. How bout what clubs does Tiger use? The Nike Clubs he uses are terrible, and he was much more on the winning end of things when he used his old clubs.

To the OP, I would say look around for any kind of a good camera that can do good Macro or Close-ups. P&S's, advanced P&S's by looking at the reviews. Then go to the Library and or any Photographers Store that sells cameras and read on Macro Photography and Close-up Attachements or Light Rings or Softboxes etc and get a feel for how they do it and just give it a try. But, dont forget to post it here as well so we can all see your work.

Assuming you mean you have 250 objects that need photographing: you need high volume production photography.

In that case you'll need something like this:

Description here.

I believe various cameras can be used in that setup.

BTW: I don't understand what you think is so hot about that second photo you posted. It is completely out of focus!

Thanks everyone for writing.

Alfred: The second picture is actually the same as the first, only that the first one was 25% scale of the original, and the second is 100% (for close up purposes).

Not4Wood: I totally understand what you mean about not only having good equipment, but having the skills. But in this case, for the guy that took this pictures, I did the set up for the product, I selected the position, area, lightning...he just pointed and shot. I know that the configuration of the camera is one important thing also, but once I have a camera that can accomplish this look, It's just a matter of trial and error.....

I don't believe that the pictures I posted are AMAZING, but they work for me, so that's why I'm looking for a camera that can accomplish that look.

I will take your advice and look for P&S cameras.....

by the way, do you think the Nikkon D-80 is too much of a camera for this job?

Thanks.

Imo, the Nikon D80 is excellent for the job but too much of a camera for your current skill level. Thus an expensive waste of its capabilities. I.o.w. overkill.

There is another consideration. If you want sharp focus on one part of the subject and soft focus on another, a dSLR may be a better choice than a fixed lens digicam.

The image "look" which the photographer got with the Nikon dSLR was made possible by using a fast lens with a large aperture which greatly shortens the depth of focus. The digicams with much smaller sensors tend to get much more of the subject in focus by virtue of the fact that they have very short true focal length lenses.

So if it's important to get an image where part of the image is in sharp focus with portions further from the lens in soft focus you would be wise to consider an inexpensive dSLR which you could use with a decent fast lens.

Best regards,

Lin
