Default What do I do? Too Many pictures!

OK here it is.

I was asked to take pictures for a good friend's wedding. And under the clause of not loosing our friendship what ever agreed.

I got the Weekend on camera and now have over 20 Gigs or raw pictures. (Sparing all the detail of the hair loosing event ( I told then I need more then 2 hrs for pictures))

It has been 2 months now and through the backup process and the first sorting.

There are still too many pictures ((That I like) That could be fixed in photoshop)).

Where do I stop. What do you do?

Pick 200-300 that are the best or show what you want to show.

Is this an entire 2/3-day weekend or just a typical 4-8 hour wedding gig? I can't imagine shooting THAT many images for a typical wedding.

That's the trouble with digital. It's too easy to take too many pictures.

I use Lightroom and can edit 1000 images very quickly! Get rid of the dross, get rid of images that all look the same - pick 1, be very critical.

I use Aperture to rate my images then edit the good ones (4&5*) then export them.

I'm guessing you shot in raw format. How many photo's did you take?

Use aperture v2 to check them all, also it makes it all much quicker. Photoshop cs3 if neccessary (aperture v2 is impressive but thats off topic)

Wow! That is a lot of images. Did you have an agreed upon number of images to supply?
I don't know if it is right. But for me when I was asked to shoot a wedding, what I gave them was.
150 table top images (4x6)
cd or cd's of all images taken.
That is what I did picture wise.

Ruthlessly cull anything that doesn't strike your fancy for the initial pass. Don't think! Delete or keep! Once you have culled it down to about 300, start thinking. 120 tops should be fine.

Must get it done before the end of the month. Got another gig coming up.. some 120 dance kids. Should be fun.... (Glad I am not a pro. Demands can't be as high. Lol ) Any one shot a dance school before

In my (western European) neck of the woods wedding commissions typically consist of 100 to 150 images in a wedding album (a 'coffee table book'), and up to a dozen 8x10" enlargements.
In the digital age this has been expanded to include a CD/DVD with that same selection of photos, 200 max. total. Optionally I also include an on-screen slide show. All inclusive of copyright.
