I take it you've checked the write protect switch on the card is not set?

Sorry if that's a patronising question .

Seems similar to wabit's problem.
I'd first try to establish if it's the card or the camera that's causing this by trying another card (that has proven to function correctly in another camera). If the prob persists it's your camera that's got the prob. If it works you'll know your first card is a dud.

Good luck,
RS

I was just reading up on image-recovery software which I would like to get as backup just in case . It mentions that removing a card while it is writing could corrupt it [ not suggesting you did this , but possibly it had bad contact ] , or maybe like I did with my S70 , I am not sure if the card actually failed or if it was because I changed modes while the image was being written to the card . The site suggests that in some cameras this can cause corruption which in most cases can be retrieved by the software even if the computer and the camera cannot read it . They say that with most cameras , except fuji , olympus and one other , when you format the card the images aren't wiped off , just the links to them so that even if you have formatted the card by accident the images can be retrieved .
Do you have acces to image -recovery software ? The local camera shop says they have gone as far as sending a card to forensics to have important images recovered .

Sounds like it was a bad contact, or some such.
Anyway, I'm glad the prob was solved.
