Here is a crop of a low-light shot I took at a friend's house where I accidentally got myself into the shot. Posted here to show some of the things I do with my LCD monitor. Exposure was 8 seconds with nary a tripod in sight, but the side of a wall partition came in handy...

When shooting candids at social events with a digital viewfinder camera, I prefer to turn the LCD off because it seems to shorten the lag time between shots. However, when shooting in dim light, too often I would miss that quick grab shot because my timing was thrown off due to difficulty finding that small viewfinder eyepiece in the dark. At times like this, I prefer to use the LCD display.

![]() Especially because this topic is not about 'some' shots. This topic is about 98% of shots! A.k.a. snapshots! A gazillion of them! The ones your auntie May takes. And your nextdoor neighbor. So, indeed, you're barking up the wrong tree here. |

Hopefully it will sell, and I really wouldn't mind live LCD views in their 'pro' camera that is due to replace the E-1 that I currently cherish - so long as it was optional to a good viewfinder and didn't compromise the quality. Today I was down on the beach and shooting very low to the ground perspective shots - something like this would have made that job a whole lot easier. |

I would agree that if my D70 had an optional lcd viewfinder that tilted , it would be very useful in my low-to-the-ground shots that I sometimes do on the beach or photographing mushrooms with a nice background , though I wouldn't use it for 99% of my shots , if they have the technology and it doesn't get in the way of quality - why not ? [ I would still be dubious of hiring a wedding photographer who only used the lcd to compose shots though ]
