Default Flash Question

I seem to be having trouble taking pictures with flash indoors. My pictures seem to always come out with a yellowish/orange tint. What am I doing wrong? This last time I took pictures on the Program mode and still got the yellowish tint. My ISO was 200 and white balance was set to flash. I also had the Stofen on my flash. When I had the Canon 430 EX and used the Gary Fong, my pictures came out with the yellow/orange tint also. I now have the Canon 580 EXII and used it the other day for the first time indoors with the Stofen and the pictures still came out with the yellowish/orange tint.

Hi kb,

have you checked whether maybe a warming filter is inadvertently set on your cam?

Have fun!

You said you are indoors; what kind of lighting is setup?
Daylight through windows? Florescent? Tungsten?

the Strobist Blog has a good article about using gels to correct light
Maybe you might find the answer to the problem there?

I think you should post an example, and also you could give more information about the shot in question.

Was your shot including ambient light near a normal incandescent bulb? So you captured both the flash to light up your subject and the ambient existing light in the background?

Did you shoot it in jpg or Raw? If you shot it in Raw you have a perfect oportunity to correct the White Balance when your importing your image in whatever Photo Editing Program your using.

what are the settings on your flash? how about the EV settings?

the flash should have enough power to "overpower" any existing light indoors...

try setting your white balance to daylight and see the effect...

Indeed, the shutter time could be too long, allowing ambient (incandescent?) light to affect the image. So set the cam's shutter speed at the X-sync speed for your camera (which is?) and try again.

I'm new to Photo Camel. How do I upload a picture with my thread? Also, I took the picture on JPEG.
