So I have just gotten into it. So here is what I would have wanted to know.
1. It is a processing technique which allows you to combine a series of photos taken at different shutter speeds into a single picture in order to cover a broader range of light. So details are not lost in shadows or in over exposure. 2. It is VERY easy to get a decent shot but to get a good one requires some work (like anything else). 3. It requires a post processing software (I bought Photomatix but there are several out there) which cost me USD85. The result is great. You can make it a realistic picture or you can push it to be almost like a cartoon. It gives you a broad artistic license to play with. __________________
