Default Think Kodak is dead?

I think Kodak is in photos for the long haul...and hope they succeed.

Kodak is currently making sensors for cameras, in case nobody knew that. Their badest one to date is the KAF-22000. But they just announced two new ones (KAF-39000 & KAF-31600). They will be used in Phase One's upcoming P45 and P30 digital backs. In case you wondered, slap three more zeros on the end of the number, to get the pixel count. Thats right, 39 million. Sweet.

Perhaps they will become the sensor maker of choice? Who knows?

Kodak have been making the sensor in the Olympus E-xxx series for a few years now - some doubt about whether they will be favoured supplier in future E-x due to the apparent noise issues, though most people agree that the current pixel quality/dynamic range/signal to noise ratio (take your pick) is pretty good. They're probably unfairly maligned because they're not up there competing with Canon, but they're pretty big and influential behind the scenes.

In fiscal year 1004, Kodak was the largest selling digital camera group in the U.S. I don't think their abandoning their Pro camera line was indicitive of anything except they knew they were overpriced and outguned in that marketplace. Their film division is all but defunct in regards to new products but they still sell a whale of a lot of film to people who still use it. I'm sure they are placing their R&D money on digital but they are far from dead.

I saw it (P880). It does look cool. Looks like a camera, not a box...

The future of Kodak depends in its economic performance which is reflected by its stock price. Currently does not look good.

Kodak is making some good P&S like the DX7590 and some other similar, that have some advanced features and take very good pictures.

Kodak is focusing a lot in cheap and easy to use cameras, believe me, lots of girls have Kodaks, and they're also very good for printing, as you only put the camera in the dock and voila!.

At this point I think that for SLRs they're only making the DCS SLR/n, a FF SLR with Nikon mount, which is around $7000, they're no longer making the SLR/c (same but with Canon Mount).

i saw the ad in outdoor potographer. my first thought was neat, followed by baby slr. I looks like a slr, probably feels like one. A few companies are going this route. The first one that makes a baby slr that has interchangable lenses will capture the market. That is if the major players done move thiers down the price range. I was taliking to a friend of mine, a farmer type, put point and shoot into perspective. for the cost of a decent lens he can get a whole camera, that is way better than the one before, why does he need a slr. so you make one of these, decent lenses priced right, people will buy it.

Having been the Pres./CEO of a publically traded company (NASDAQ) for 11 years I assure you that the price of the companies stock on the current market is NOT indicitive of the health or value of the company. Shareholoders are THIRD PARTY investors BETTING on the company's performance and has absolutely nothing to do with the company directly.

Maybe, but from my experience of being a lowly employee, companies will do pretty much whatever it takes to keep their third-party shareholders happy.

This is a given, but it still has nothing to do with the health of the company. The stock market tends to reflect the CURRENT bottom-line profits without regard to long term.
