I'm not sure where to post this, so please move if this isn't the best place.
Anyone going to attempt some total lunar eclipse pics? I'd love to see and attempt to capture something other than dark sky, but I'm F-A-R from a morning person. I think I would need to set every alarm in the house on my nightstand. I just may that. Click here for details: Total Lunar Eclipse. It even provides the viewing schedule. __________________

Unfortunately, most folks on the US east coast and mid atlantic area may not get a chance to view it. The moon will be so dim that it will almost disappear.
I will be up at that time anyway (getting readfy for work here in Ohio) so I'll step outside and take a look with my 600mm and 1.5X TC. Never know - may catch something! Bob S. |

I might give it a shot, but I don't have any particularly long lenses.
![]() This is the last one I got, back in May 2003 with a Nikon Coolpix. |

I'm toying with going out for this. My biggest issue is that BOTH of my good tripods are with some friends for their school shoots this week. I've got a cheap Slik that might work but I'm not sure if it will hold my big lenses.
To top it off, my wife isn't getting home until late tonight and I won't be back to the house until 11:00pm. Local peak is supposed to be 3:00am-ish. So do I sleep for a few hours and drive 30 minutes out of light pollution area? Or bite the bullet and not sleep tonight? Decisions, decisions... |

My attempt, just a few minutes ago.
Worse than I thought for sharpness but considering I've got a 20D, 2X TC, and 100-400 at 400 on a $30 tripod meant to support 1/2 that weight, I'm not surprised. Optically, I'm not sure I could have done much better anyway without going to the big primes. EXIF: 1.3s at f/11, ISO1600. I was trying to keep shutter speed as low as possible to reduce movement on this wimpy tripod. There is another one in February, btw, that should give the US another decent show. I'm going to practice up on that one. ![]() |

I got up for it. Was beautiful. With my short lens though I was not able to get anything great.

After going to bed two hours before the fact I'm glad I didn't get out of bed for it - heard it was very overcast and moon wasn't visible at all.

I'm glad some were able to see it. I was about to check on weather and stuff when I started to watch tv. Yep, I crashed and didn't get up until 6:47 a.m.
Bummer. I would've liked to have seen something-- hazy or not. Thanks for posting your pics everyone. |

I got to see up to 2/3 of the eclipse before it dissapeared behind the trees. I was outside about 5:05 am, went back in for the camera and tripod. Camera was cold cause house is airconditioned, by the time lens was clear of condensation the moon was way behind the trees.
I blew that one. Eric |

Here's my attempt! I put together several images showing some of the progression. The full moon image was taken before I went to bed - I wasn't getting up THAT early!

I saw the tail end of it on my way to work this morning. Pretty neat. My camera does not take night shots at all, darn. But here in Seattle it was a very crisp night, no haze or clouds.
