When you need to carry all of your camera gear and the kitchen sink, which bag do you recommend?

I've got the Lowepro Computrekker Plus AW. Backpack style with lots of padding and supposedly considered carry-on by the airlines. Lots of space and pouches, is designed to carry a tripod & has its own built in water/dust cover if you need it.

I have the LowePro Photo Trekker AW for hauling about 35 pounds of photo gear. I like the LowePro Orion AW belt pack when I only want to carry my 1DMKII, a couple of lenses, CF cards, extra battery, filters, and other things like that. I like it on my waist where it is easy to get to the stuff but is easy to carry. The packs that have the AW in the name have a built in rain cover that tucks in a pouch on the bottom and pulls up and over the pack to keep rain out when needed.

lowepro mini-trekker aw. i can stuff two all-in-ones, or small dslr's (if i had them) plus a couple lenses/lens adaptors, sunpak 555 handle-mount flash, on camera flash, and if i need it, i can fit my 15" toshiba notebook on top of my gear (no seperate pocket-need the computrekker for that; and if you've seen a toshiba notebook, you know they aren't small). plus it has a front pocket which i fill with peripherals like batteries, chargers/ac adaptors, chords, and small notebooks (the kind with paper). it also has a tripod holder. if i use that and have everything i listed, the bag holds a lot of pounds, though it is easy on the shoulders. (although your back will sweat buckets, as it lays flat against you.

But hard cases don't strap on your back very well.
![]() Jay, if you get anything LowePro, you can get them cheaper through a couple of Canadian stores on e-bay. I've bought all of mine (4 LowePro bags) that way and saved a bunch over what I would have paid through B&H. It only added about a day more in shipping time. Mike |

* * * * * * * * * * *I don't have a backpack as of yet. But I use a Lowepro Commercial AW that I realy like. $191.00 at B&H, but I got a great deal on mine off ebay for $115.00.*
Bought it from a seller that had a lot of positive feedback. It was used but can't tell it from new. As other post stated, a Canadain seller sells them for $158.00 plus shipping, new on ebay.* * * * * * *Joe |

I never use a large carry bag or store stuff in one. I have a couple of sizes of rolling cases that I keep lenses and accessories in for travel and in the back of my Explorer. When I shoot I generally carry 2 (occaisonally 3) bodies with lenses and a Domke F-6. Sometimes I use a Domke F-803 (satchel type). I also wear a Domke vest. Bottom line is I never use a big bag for anything and I almost never carry bodies in a bag. (Is there a joke in there* :-\ ) The down side is that I have to be careful to make sure I have sufficient pockets in either small bag or my vest to stash stuff if bad weather catches me off-guard.*

If I have to carry “tons of gear” such as still and video cameras, lenses, lights, reflectors/diffusers, camera supports, light supports, background supports, film, tapes, etc.; there is no way I am going to use soft bags for this stuff. I prefer hard cases, especially if airline personnel will be handling it.
