Thank you SilentRob. I was a bit puzzled by the whole 2.0 and 2.8 numbers in the halving/doubling sequence, so you cleared that up and gave a simple way to remember. I have the basic f/stops committed to memory, but logically, when you don't know the reason behind the numbers, you still go....wait a minute, that just doubled the light?

For the life of me I could not get the idea of smaller number bigger hole (I am all about technical terminology) until I read somewhere in one of the 3,241 books on photography I have read that I should think about it as a division problem. That cleared up the size and magnitude relationship for me. In a sixth grade mind if you divide a pizza with 2.8 friends you get a bigger slice than when you divide it with 5.6 friends. Thank goodness for pizza and fair weather friends.

Blumesan, I think that is funny....Kelly and the Holy Photo Grail. I can already see some of the scenes unfolding in the book. On the quest, as soon as Kelly obtains the magical 30D a 40D is released...partly because Kelly has ADD and can only focus on one or two things at a time...and then...frustrated to show the Canon Gods that they don't have anything on him, he goes in debt, purchases a 5D when the next day a 5Dii is released and the Canon Gods laugh and laugh and laugh. Meanwhile our hero is left with another quandry, "What the C-f-n does this button do?"

John...I did see Iggy Stardust and the something something somehting movie when I was in college...but I only saw what 1/3 of my brain could comprehend...at the time. Sadly, I have a history.

These movies are nothing like that. They are parody/farce, but so well done, they seem like real documentaries. Hi-stinkin-larious.

Sorry to derail this thread, but what if your mistake was unprotected intercourse, and the consequence a deadly virus? What if you murdered someone? What if your mistake was being abused? Surely some cycles can be broken.

I understand what you are saying, but I fail to see 'mistake' in either of the three examples, especially in the last...

The mistake would be to ignore the past, and allow those cycles to continue. Abuse and violence are handed down, as is lack of respect for one's self and body. We can learn from past mistakes, and teach our children what we've learned.

I understand what your saying, too. They have to live their own life, and learn from their own mistakes. However, some mistakes can be avoided through good parenting.

I'm still around. Crazy busy, and don't always have time to post. Generally I'm just following threads in my CP. But I have kept up on this and even taken notes.

We leave SUNDAY! I'm a bit nervous for a variety of reasons. I really do wonder how "strict" and faithful they are about the whole *photography thing* as I've read and heard nightmare stories. But of course the main one deals with exposure. My husband went out and bought me a ND filter tonight. I was shocked when he came home with it. I'm hoping to play around with it before we leave. If pressed for time and locations I figure a variety of lamps and shades may work.

I have to say due to this thread I definitely have a better appreciation and understanding of exposure and *trying* to obtain what I'm looking for. *Trying* would still be key here. Sometimes I just don't know why, but I have to three or four shots. I know some of it is my fault due to stupid things like not taking my white balance off of tungsten when I'm outdoors and ridiculous things like that.

So since this is becoming chatty... how's the school year treating you Kelly? It looks like they are keeping you busy.
