Default Do you rate threads?

I've noticed that photocamel has a thread rating feature, and I've used it from time to time, but it seems that I'm in the minority. I rate good threads because it's a way I have of expressing my opinion about the thread as a whole and of letting others know that a given thread is worth clicking.

I have once in a while rated a thread one star (bad) to let people know that I don't like a thread.

What are your thoughts on thread rating?

But would 1 star be better or worse than no stars at all...

I don't normally use this 'feature', but I did here

I never have rated threads, but then I am not an old-timer here either. I think we have a very effective thread-rating system currently in effect. This is based upon the number of posts and the number of participants and the length of time the thread remains active. In other words, thread activity constitutes an rather effective rating system. A mandated rating system might easily be erroneous due to rating various threads prematurely.

It is only Wednesday so I am only offering 1.948999 cents U.S., but the thread is interesting,

And what about those excellent threads just full of great info where there is nothing more to add after a certain point. These kinds of things are often certain to get lost in the oblivion of history. There are well over 20,000 threads on this board so far, and I'm sure there are probably tons that have great info that most people will never read if they joined the site after the thread died.

John,

What I think we need is an outline/index. I once suggested this on another forum and all I did was get shot down. However, the other board contains a whole lot of commercialism. I think we could do this hear and have an invaluable, archived product. Yes, this would take much work, but this is no different than anything else worth having.

Good point, John,
Tom

I normally do Karma more than I rate threads, as it's nice when you get a Karma boost and you can click a link and go right back in the discussion.

Trentchau,

I think that Karma is wonderful, but it does not overall preserve the total value and the ability to find information on this wonderful forum. We really need more than this and includiing the Karma, IMHO.

Trentchau,

I understand and I use search often, but information capture for ready educational use needs a bit more refining to make this truly user friendly, IMHO.

Advanced search is far more useful. You should limit your search with the board filter on the lower left.
