Looking at buying Canon Xti with sigma lens kit

They don't come up on Reseller Ratings, but I would still stay away. The products there are grey market- look at the silver Nikon D40; that is not available with US warranty. While Canon (unlike Nikon) will service grey market products, the store is probably one of those bait and switch stores, or one of those where it'll be nearly impossible to actually get what you paid for.

Get prepared for 300~400% marked up aggressively marketed accessories and if you decide not to buy any of the accessories, magically out of stock inventory.

They are worst than bait and switch, stores like that are pure New York thugs.

Agree with the other guys. If it doesn't show up in Reseller Ratings then run away as fast as you can. Heck, better take a car and speed up

If you are looking for a good deal you may want to look at refurbished Canons. Some people here and other places are happy with them. That's an option to consider.

Just because it doesn't show up on RR, doesn't mean it isn't reputable. RR is more useful if there are negative feedback. The fact that they use the word "kit" is what sends up a red flag for me.

Look at the "kit":

Bottom line, this is not a good purchase to make, reputable dealer or not. Look at B&H: Nikon D80 SLR Digital Camera with Nikon 18-135mm G DX Lens and Two 2GB SD Cards. Then grab a blower, a lens pen, a nice bag, and you're good to go and you can sleep at night knowing not one single piece of your kit is garbage.

Basically, they've thrown in a bunch of crap that costs mere pennies, to make it look like a huge kit with huge savings. It's like the "extra warrantee and rust inhibitor" at the end of a new car sale.

That might be true, but why take a risk unnecessarily. There are so many reputable vendors out there.

Well, for instance, Midwest Photo Exchange (New and Used Photograhy Equipment) has no ratings, yet is better than B&H, in my opinion. However, their inventory is not as comprehensive as B&H.

"KIT" rhymes with "S#%*". At least give your extra shekels to charity. You will end up feeling better. If you can't find "charity" listed on RR, please know that a few of us have this as our middle name and we will accept donations as long as the donations in kind do not come from the source listed.

Another reputable source for used gear is KEH.

On ebay I got my rebel xti, memory card, bogen tripod, camera bag, and a 4 year best buy warrenty for $700 back in april. Give it a try.

I can vouch for Cameta as well - in addition to being quick to ship out, they are very helpful on the phone. You usually get some candy in your shipment, too

Have purchased many cameras, lens and accessories from Cameta Camera. They are a "brick and mortar" store as well as ebay. Never a hint of a problem. Bought my Sunpak "potato masher" flash from them with all attachments on a closeout for less than 1/2 price.
