Hello all,
As an avid photographer, I would like to digitally archive at least some of the 30+ years of Negs. and Trans. that I have accumulated. I figure after seriously editing down to the real keepers, I might have aprox. 200 images I would like to have in digital form. I don't feel this would be enough to justify the expense of a "pro' scanner... but then again, if I had one, I might shoot more film... and I'm a control freak... Just trying to get along with the "purist" inside I will not do this unless/until I feel I can afford the best...or at least not waste my time... Suffice to say, I could use some advice.please accept my apology for covering old ground, I have seached this and other forums and it's an interesting quandry. Any thoughts or experiences appreciated. ThX, Jeff __________________

Hi Jeff,
I don't have a first hand experience with a good quality scanner, I only have a cheap one. But from what I read in the net people are saying good things about Minolta scanners (does this company still exists?). This probably doesn't help you much ![]() |

If you can't justify spending the money on a scanner then you need to find yourself a lab that will still scan negs and put them to a cd or dvd. If I may recommend one, H&H Color Lab still does this but you will need to open an account with them (free). As for scanners go, I have an Epson 4990 Photo Pro and it does a pretty decent job of scanning negs at 4800 dpi. I've heard the new Epsons are pretty good at scanning negs also and I believe they have a max resoulution of 6400 dpi. Hope this helps....

I'll bet you could find an older model that would still give excellent results for not too much money. I also have heard good things about Minolta (I don't know if they're still around) and also Nikon.
