Default Don't know if this should go here? - Rebates

So, I have been given the "go ahead" to start buying all my camera stuff. I'm not the sort to just jump and go buy everything from one store the day I'm able to get it. I figure the more I save on things, the more I'll be able to get toward this and the better job I'll be able to do for families.

Anyhoo...I'm wondering. About how often do rebates come out for things like the 20D? I know there was one a while back. Do they tend to run every 6 months, every 4 months, once a year? Am I out of luck getting a good deal on it till Christmas buying comes along (though I've already started on Christmas presents for people...I like to be completely done by Thanksgiving) which will be too late for me.

Just curious, I'm going to start looking around online to see where I'm going to get stuff.

The link isn't working for me I'm afraid. In case there was a typo I tried warehouseexpress.online and warehousexpress.online but wasn't sure what else I might try.

Wait...I just tried warehouseexpress.co.uk, is that the place? Looks like that is only for Europe unfortunately. Maybe they'll bring it over to the states when it is doen there though, so this is encouraging, thank you for finding that for me, very sweet of you.

I keep hoping to get to one of the nice camera stores in town, but it can be about an hour drive or more to get to any but a wolf camera near here where I swear they know less than the guy who works at the Target in my town (I'm in a fairly small town and there are NO camera shops here at all, not a one). It is too much of a hassle to cart both the boys with me into a store filled with breakable stuff (really, they are well behaved, honest they are, but there can be accidents of course and I just like to avoid that sort of thing) during the day, and by the time my husband gets home most of the stores have closed so that leaves the weekends and this weekend I'll probably be hanging out in bed (bronchitis) as much as possible.

The past few years Canon has been running two rebate programs each year. Spring with "regular" rebates and Fall (October) with double and triple rebates. If you can wait a few weeks we should start hearing if they are doing that again this year.

Woohoo! That is what I wanted to hear! Oh that would be fantastic if they do something like that. I can hold on for a little longer, though I'm not promising I'll do it calmly and quietly and patiently by any means! I could end up getting myself my camera for my birthday then...or a little after maybe. Hopefully they'll be generous and quick about it this year, it would be so helpful.

Thanks for the info.

Sara,

How far are you from Washington Square Mall?* The Shutterbug is there.* I've had good luck with my local Shutterbug.

No, I've never bothered with them, they are smaller than the wolf that is near Washington Square so when I've had to go somewhere I've gone there. Wow, I just checked out their site, they are SO expensive (good grief, they are trying to say that the retail price on JUST the canon body is $2,200.00 but they have a "cheap" price of $1,499.99 which is exactly $100.00 more than Costco sells it for with the 18-55 lens, and Costco isn't actually the cheapest I've found). Wolf camera just hasn't ever seemed to have anyone who knew what they were doing. It may be the times I've made it in there of course, I tend to have bad luck with things like that. I usually get the incompetent waitresses at restaurants, pick the slowest line in the grocery store or (which has happened more than once) as soon as I get up to the front of the line they remember something they had to do and tell me they'll be right back...which they aren't. Something about me I think.
Oh, and it can take 30-45 minutes to get to Washington Square, depending on the traffic.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. By "good luck" I meant my local shop seems to have some people working there that actually know a thing or two about cameras and are willing to have a dialogue with you, at least the conversations I've had have been good. I thought perhaps someone there might be able to confirm rebates or sales coming up. I like supporting the local shop when I can, but certainly wouldn't if their prices were ridiculous. Since it's the closest shop to me, I tend to check there first for info, etc...

I TOTALLY agree about supporting the local shop. I wish there was one here! I would rather buy from someone IRL than online, but wolf is pretty expensive too and I just can't do that. I rarely go into Washington Square anymore, probably when Tiernan is a little older I'll venture into there for more than an occasional photo session somewhere. He's at the age right now where he doesn't like to be held when we are out and about, and he would MUCH rather run around like a crazy person.

Amazon has posted a PDF of the new rebates (for purchases made after October 15)...

Woohoo! Thank you. So, that will probably be the rebate everyone starts offering, but not till the 15th I take it? Too bad they don't have quadruple rebates or something. I'm going to be getting the 17-40 and 70-200 and the 20D and the 580 (I'm pretty sure, especially since there are the rebates...can't do two though) and if the rebates kept on growing I would have gotten the 50 1.4 probably instead of the 1.8 which I am probably going to have to wait on anyway. Anyway, looks like I'll get a nice healthy rebate, that is wonderful. Thank you again, how did you find that!?

You aren't limited to three items. If you get four items from the list you get the triple rebate on all four items.

But read it all carefully. I don't think that the flash counts towards the multiple items. But if you got a flash, a 20D, and three lenses you would get a hefty triple rebate on those four items plus the flash rebate.
