Default The medium gray interface - what is your opinion?

By now it is obvious. Photoshop. ACDSee. Everybody seems to have adopted the medium gray background/interface as optimal for their photographic applications.

What do you think about it? I'm sick of it already.

If you don't like it use preferences to change it to a different one.

I believe they do it because they think our brains work like a meter. If the background is too bright or too dark, we will adjust our processing accordingly. But if its a neutral grey, then we wont have the background as a factor.

And I think that is the truth no matter why they do it.

Neutral gray seems like a nice default. If I was doing something like preparing images for a website, I could see having a white background (if the website was also white).

I've always used a medium gray background for photgraphy and graphic work. Even my desktop it a medium gray!

Cool Re: The medium gray interface - what is your opinion?

Medium grey negates any color or brightness bias allowing you to adjust your image brightness and color more accurately.
