Insurance:
What ever you do and despite the cost get your gear insured. Stupid me, I forgot to insure mine and lost a Nikon D3S which I love and is no longer in production and three Nikon lens. A 50 mm and a 2.8 24-70 and a 2.8 14-24mm lens. I hate London and most of all I hate NCP car parks. All you UK drivers avoid NCP car parking stations as they (NCP) know a thieves operate in there carparkes __________________

if you have homeowners you can put a rider on it to cover your camera gear. For 75 a year I get a 0 deductible and all my gear covered.

If you work professionally with your equipment, you will almost definitely need a separate insurance policy.
These can include options not commonly found on a homeowner's insurance policy, such as liability insurance (e.g. for when you drop a camera out of the catwalk and hit someone below you), insurance for rental equipment so you don't have to put down a huge deposit with your credit card, indemnification insurance, re-shoot insurance, props, on and off-site workstations, and so on. If you're a member of the PPA, there is some indemnification insurance included in membership that you can take advantage of. I personally use a company that specializes in services for photographers and videographers; Tom C. Pickard: TCP |

My car insurance includes theft from the car. My house content insurance includes loss or damage of my camera gear anywhere in UK. Check the terms and conditions of your car & household insurance please. This won't apply if you are a professional photographer though.

mikewd, you should check your homeowners insurance and auto insurance ... they might actually cover it or part of it. |

My research showed if homeowners insurance company could find any aspect of professional use they wouldn't cover. I'm not a pro but have done many for pay photo projects. So I ended up getting insurance thru Hill & Usher. Richard Reyes there is great to work with and can get you set up with exact needs. First class service and outfit.. Cost depends on how much coverage you need and what you might do with your equipment..

but usually if it slips off of a rock into the river it's probably not covered. You need 'Inland Marine Insurance'. No other insurance will cover camera gear in situations like this.
