Maybe it's because us Nikon users are more clueless?

Actually it is because there are more Canon users. They are so afraid the Nikon users are catching up that they keep going over there to look.

In my experience there are two kinds of people. 1. :What I have is better than what anyone else has." And, 2. "I wish I had the other one." The first does not care what anyone else uses, the second worries about it constantly.

There is also a minority third group, which I am in, who wish they could afford that expensive stuff.

I think this one might've whooshed past you, Mira (and maybe Ed).

First, it's not "old news" as I've certainly never seen the readership numbers discussed. I've actually been monitoring this casually for a long time now.

Second, it's meant to be a lighthearted, silly post, exactly unlike the jpg vs raw thread.

Interesting stats.

Ever since I got my taxes back (which has been months now) I have been looking for camera gear. I have noticed that on LA Craigslist there are a lot of people selling Cannon gear and hardly anyone selling Nikon gear.

Clearly Nikon owners are happy owners.

And yes I have Nikon pride. Only because I have always used Nikon and the cameras just fit my hands. The debate is strangely welcome. I live and breathe photography so sometimes being silly really helps.

Could it be that the Canon users go to the Canon forum for gear issues, rather than a sub-forum on the Camel?
I know I spend plenty of time there and never really look at gear threads on this forum.

Dunno. I don't think my equipment is better than what others have, & don't wish I had a different system. My stuff works (most of the time) for me, and I'm too old to lust after expensive stuff. Have gone from Instamatic, to Konica, to Olympus, to Canon, to Fuji, to Nikon, etc.
I do wish I had some of the creativity, ability and time that others put into their work.

Hi, I've also noticed the Nikon forum has more viewers than Canon and I wonder why. All I have come up with it's just a mystery. Have fun and keep shoo tin'. Mike

For amateurs DSLR, Nikon seems to be leading in popularity at the moment. At least that's from my personal observation. Also, Nikon brought out with the D800 a product that generates a lot of buzz and interest, which might contribute to the forum activity too. I wonder what will happen, when Canon brings out their mirrorless system. This might change things again.

And no, I have not Nikon or Canon pride, I have non of them and I don't take much pride in things I just bought in the store like million others. But then, perhaps that's just envy speaking, because I don't have a Nikon or a Canon to be proud of?

Bingo. Nikon at the moment is kicking butt in the entry DSLR market. It won't last forever, and that is GOOD. The competition is a fine thing for us users......

I totally agree with Ed, When I bought my first DSLR, I picked up and handled all the brands, I researched them all. But the final choice came down to what they felt like and how easy it was to navigate around the different functions that I thought I would use/need. For me it appeared to be Nikon, though for others it could easily be Canon, Olympus, etc... Since, I sometimes think about Canon and the others and may eventually add one to the stable for many different personal reasons. I believe all brands have something to offer and no single brand can claim perfection in all areas. So call me a traitor or a fence rider. Ones expression should not be limited by the gear but by ones imagination or skill at any level.
