It's really amazing, isn't it? You can get a perfectly good 2 GB card for $35.
The only downside of these drastic price drops is that your older 1 GB, 512 MB, 256 MB cards are now next to worthless. So what do you do with them? |

I still get something like 158 uncompressed RAW (NEF) files on a 1 GB card using my D2H. I find that with larger cards, I start to get crappier shots, as I realize I can almost "shoot anything that moves" and get away with it, so I spend more time reviewing junk instead of quickly converting the good ones and moving on.
My cards have returned to their roots as simple memory devices quite often, so I just keep using the old ones. I'd still shoot with a 512 MB CF card if I had one, though a 256 wuld be pushing it. Honestly, I only have one card larger than 1 GB: a 4 GB SanDisk Extreme III which was cheaper with a rebate (at the time; prices fell immediately) than buying four 1 GB cards- and it came with Capture One LE. |

I wish Olympus would introduce a compression scheme for their RAW files. A 5 megapixel image takes 10 megabytes
. This can easily be reduced to less than half that size if converted to DNG, so there's a lot of slack in those files. a 1GB card would give me around 200 images in that scenario - and as the 1GB cards are now so cheap I would now have plenty in my pocket... :-\__________________
