Poll: Which camera system do you use?

Somebody in the Canon forum asked why it appears so many more people use that forum than the Nikon one. So it might be interesting generally to find out which Camels are using which system.

Mainly because they all use the same batery etc

What is a system
My dSLR is a Sigma SD10. My film SLRs are Nikon F2, Praktika MTL5B (M42x1 mount), Exakta Varex IIb, Pentacon Six, Seagull Twin Reflex and last & least a Zenit 12S (M42x1 mount).

I mount almost any lens on any camera, except for the F2 which only has been used with my Nikkor glass. Lenses are being cross mounted from one camera to another to have variety and fun. Now I'm contemplating to add a Six adapter + M42x1 adapter on my SD10 to check my Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 4/50, CZJ Biometar 2.8/80 my CZJ 2.8/180 and Meyer 4.0/200 lens.

Got a digital back for that Mamiya, Chip? Or is it a film camera?

It's film. The only reason I keep it is the idea that I might get a digital back for it. I haven't shot it in two years.

Nikon for my DSLRs, but I like Canon's cameras too. For film, the current system I'm keeping is also Nikon, but I've shot Leica in the past.

Nikon gal here... but I learned alot of years ago, not to get caught up in what camera is better, but to just keep with a good name & build a nice pile of goods & learn to see the light & you will be alright... LOL

Sorry for the stupid question, but what is a digital back. It sounds like an interchangeable back of a, say, 6x7 cameras. As in you can change the "back" from film to digital. I don't even know what "back" is :-[

My sis is into painting and sometimes we compare notes (mainly composition.) I tell her that painters paint with brushes, photographers paint with light.

I ticked Nikon because those are the slr's I use , but my compacts are both Canon because they had the specs I needed in a compact at the time ....

Again, pardon the silly question.

Most medium format system cameras have modular, removable backs so you can have several backs loaded, some with different film so you can reload quickly or change film types mid-roll during a shoot. They use a dark slide to keep the film safe while the back is removed.

When digital photography started to take hold, some manufacturers like Leaf and PhaseOne specialized in using that same modular functionality to make digital backs that worked with existing cameras and glass. Put a Leaf back on your 500 series Hassy and you have a state of the art medium format DSLR.

You can get digital backs for most MF and 4x5 system cameras so you don't have to trash a big investment just to go digital.

It's just a good way to switch a medium format camera from film to digital by replacing the removable film holder (back) with a digital imager.

I think half of the truth of the matter is people buy a Nikon or canon and the lenses are so expensive they tend to stick with what they started with.

That's exactly why I have Nikon... I would've switched to Canon a while back had I not had so much invested in Nikon... now i don't care, Nikon does the job... it just took me a while to figure out how to make a good digital image.

I've spend some three moments to decide which way to go: Canon or Nikon. Finally the specs of the 20D convinced me.
Now if look back: I would to do the same.

However, Nikon makes the only camera system I use.

I'm with blinky, I've been down that road 3 times, settled into MF Nikon gear, now my only choice for digital is either a D200 or a D2, though I do have one hell of a lens collection for 35mm, I also use an RB system, as well as toyo 4x5 (several) and 8x10 (one C-1, one Homebuilt, on B+J Commercial), and I'm building a yet to be determined format ULF camera
