Time for the 4th PhotoCamel BWTB (bi-weekly, theme-based) Photo Contest. This Contest will end about midnight on March 12th. The theme for this is:
REFLECTION Interpret that how you want (but remember the voters vote on theme) Here is a summary of the rules: Each entry MUST "fit" the theme. Each entry MUST be taken during the timeline of the Contest, so include EXIF data in the image file, if you can (Our website will show it as an option). ONE image per member per contest, so make it your best. Image MUST be resized down to NO more than 800 pixels on the longest side, and NOT more than 150kb in file size. Just so you know Photoshop mis-calculates the JPG file size (actual file is larger) in the compression dialog. Image must NOT contain massive amounts of post processing. Use your judgement, but it should be limited to "normal" cropping, some level/curves, sharpening, etc. Image must NOT contain a "signature", a web link/address, a frame/mat, etc. Your image WILL contain a simple black frame with a white mat during the voting process. See the previous contest entries for an idea. Image must NOT contain anything "obscene". It is a subjective thing, but violence, nudity, sex, etc should be avoided, and will probably be eliminated. EMAIL your image to this address:* photocamelcontest@gmail.com* *BEFORE the contest deadline. Include your PhotoCamel "member name" with your email, so I know who you are. Include a short caption if you want to, and if you finish well, I'll add it after the voting period to the image page. When the Contest deadline is up, ALL valid images will be posted at the "PhotoCamel Photo Contest site". A new POLL will appear in this Forum on the Tuesday after the Contest deadline, so ALL Members can vote on their Top-5 (or so) favorite images. __________________

I'll have to sit back and reflect on this one. ![]() I've been meaning to ask, just for the sake of clarifacation... which "about midnight" is the deciding ending midnight? Eastern, Centeral, Pacific, Greenwhich or somewhere else in between? Mike |

Yup.
Actually, if I am on here Sunday night about 9 to 10 Central Zone in the US, I'll probably modify the post to say it is closed. Since the images get emailed, if I check Monday morning about 7am, and there is an email, I'll probably let it in. Rules are rules, but they are bendable ![]() |

It is designed this way. With other contests, when you post it, others see it. If people really care about winning, then it is always nice to see the competition, isn't it? Sometimes it stops others from posting at all, because they know they can't beat "that one".
Also something that I actually like is the way the images are presented after the deadline. You can see them all right there, without scrolling through several posts, and having to flip the page to scroll through others. There is no perfect way, and certainly not one that appeals to all parties. The BWTB Photo Contest is a "secret" type, where you don't see the competition, and don't know who actually posted it, so that makes it harder to vote for a "friend" over an "enemy" when comparing two images. There are more people that apparently do not like it, than do like it. But the ones that do participate, I think are glad they did, and enjoy the challenge it can bring. |

I think it should stay a secret even after the voting is over. That way the others can wonder who won and the winner can't gloat.

I like the format the way it is. I agree it makes it less threatening to enter. It also really IS nice not to have to scroll through all the posts to see the pictures that have been submitted. I'm NEVER confident with my work, and don't bother entering when I know for sure that all the people entered have better pictures than me, which they will, but at least I can fool myself into thinking I have a chance if I can't see what others put in.

Ugh! Are we not photographers and artists? Nudity is not obscene. Anyways... |

It depends on how it's done, Ray. But regardless, keep in mind that on this board, nudity is suppose to be in the Glamor area, which requires Jay to grant access to it. The images entered in the contest can be viewed out here in the open by all ages. So considering the age of some of our particapants, it makes sense to limit the content a bit.
Yes, we are all photographers... but I think the younger generation should find their nudity like the rest of us did when we were young... in National Geographic and Popular Photography, rather than in the forums. ![]() Mike |
