Bi-Weekly Photo Contest "#1" - Ended

Time for the FIRST PhotoCamel, bi-weekly, theme-based Photo Contest. This Contest will end about midnight on Jan 29th. Since looking at the list of contests, this is Number ONE, it becomes kind of obvious that we should honor it. Thus, the theme for this is:

Number ONE

Interpret that how you want, but remember the voters..

Here is a summary of the rules:

Each entry MUST "fit" the theme.

Each entry MUST be taken during the timeline of the Contest, so include EXIF data in the image file.

ONE image per member per contest, so make it your best.

Image MUST be resized down to NO more than 800 pixels on the longest side, and NOT more than 150kb in file size.

Image must NOT contain massive amounts of post processing. Use your judgement, but it should be limited to "normal" cropping, some level/curves, sharpening, etc.

Image must NOT contain a "signature", a web link/address, a frame/mat, etc. Your image WILL contain a simple black frame with a white mat during the voting process.

Image must NOT contain anything "obscene". It is a subjective thing, but violence, nudity, sex, etc should be avoided, and will probably be eliminated.

EMAIL your image to this address: photocamelcontest@gmail.com BEFORE the contest deadline. Include your PhotoCamel "member name" with your email, so I know who you are. Include a short caption if you want to, and if you finish well, I'll add it after the voting period to the image page.

When the Contest deadline is up, ALL valid images will be posted at the "PhotoCamel Photo Contest site". A new POLL will appear in this Forum on the Tuesday after the Contest deadline, so ALL Members can vote on their Top-5 favorite images. More on this when that POLL is created.

No problem on the theme, and if the contest gets to be too much, someone else can have it

And I'm only gonna pick the first two themes. The winner of the contest will pick the theme for the next contest, which will start one week after they are announced the winner.

Of course, I'll have to pick the third theme too, since I'm gonna kick everybodies butt on this one

Good idea taking the picture during the competition time , this will seperate those that just dig up old pictures and those prepared to get off their butts , before you kick them ...

How come on your other post about the competition I can't post a reply ? It is not giving me that option . I like the idea of voting for up to 3 pictures . The idea of the frame though .....possibly some colours might not look that good with a white frame and that may disadvantage some entries , what do you think ?

Actually, I don't know about the other thread. I'll go check, but I got your message here anyway.

As for the Frame. I understand what you are saying, and what Bauerman is too. Right now, it boils down to my preference. I was going to go with a middle gray background, but within the software for the website, I can't do a mat & frame in that color combo.

So, for this one at least, I just picked what I think looks best. If it is an issue, then I cna change it later. But with most stuff, if I go to a no frame, mid-gray backdrop, then some will have an issue there too. It is a toughie deal, and someone will be okay, someone not, and I'll get the blame or the credit.

But to handle people who might think about it before their image is taken, I did post the example to let everybody know, which was nice I think

And there won't be any yellow, or gold or whatever color that is. But you'll have to wait like everybody else to see it, because there are no pics to post. So take a "Number ONE" shot, and email it on in....

ok , ok you're both right , luckily I cut my hand open and have another 2 weeks recovery before I go back to work . Right after I finish my pancakes with maple syrup . [ maybe I should also add the cream ] , I will go out and look for a number 1 picture but it is actually quite a difficult theme ....

Hey now. You all are planting ideas in others heads. Not allowed.

The idea (theme) of these contests should be "difficult". It should make everybody wonder. In psychology terms, you're not having difficulty with the theme per se, you're having difficulty wondering how to do it better than someone you don't know. In Star Wars terms, Use the Force, Luke.

Last night I took a drive to find a suitable "one" image . I was looking for neon signs but got to "Pier One" only to find they never had a decent sign but from the pier there was a good display in the sky .... [ would that be a valid excuse to post an entry like this or must the picture have the "one" theme entwined in it ] , btw I had the wb set at "shade -2" , that seems to be the most accurate setting so far that doesn't interfere too much with ACTUAL colour ...
