My submission:
![]() I didn't get my first digital SLR (Olympus E-1) until around August of last year. Before then I'd been using an old Olympus film camera (OM4ti), although I'd probably only shot 1 roll in the previous 6 months. Mainly for sentimental reasons I decided to give the Olympus 4/3rds system a try, and have no regrets. It seems like a tiny resolution these days, but the E-1 is a quality camera, the colours are great and the lenses greater still. This was taken in woods not too far from where I live using the E-1 and 14-54mm lens. It's my favourite mainly because of the light and colour of all the fallen pine needles, plus the pattern of the tree trunks. It's a very special place walking around this area - so quiet and it smells great! |

One of my favorites!
Canon 10D, Canon EF 17-40 f/4L, Canon 580 flash, 1/160sec @ f/4, 40mm. Cropped and converted to BW using Photoshop ![]() I keep thinking that I should go back and recrop it to regain the bottom portion of his beard, but I never seem to get around to doing it. edit: used smaller image ... original wouldn't fit most screens |

I know, how can you pick just one from a year's worth... but them's the rules! Please note that if you submit more than one image then it will be ineligible for entry into the poll. We're looking for the one image that you consider your finest of 2005 - make sure that you edit your post to only have one image before submission closing date !

Might be my best, but it is the one that means the most to me.
I took this while in New Orleans in October, to help clean some stuff after Hurricane Katrina. I didn't have a tripod, so had to handhold. No metering or lighting devices to help me. Loyola was just sitting there, with no one in the city that cared, so I guessed, composed, relaxed, and took the shot. I thank her for being so brave and resiliant, and allowing me to take her picture. I have had some think it was okay, and others love it. Seems the ones that know and understand about the low-light, but bright floodlight conditions, knew the difficulty...especially for a rank amatuer like me. ![]() |
