Maybe the contest should have been titled "Kinetic Motion".

But, no matter. Not my contest. I was interested in seeing if anyone came up with a real example though. Something like Newton's Balls or something like that. Maybe using hard boiled eggs instead of steel balls... or even raw eggs. That would have made a interesting shot.

I'll get back to being a body at rest that tends to stay at rest.

Mike,

I'm simply crushed...

Isn't the source of energy behind the motion implied in many of these examples? :

Regardles, not worth splitting atoms over...

I just referred to the originator of the thread --

"Most action photography consists of "freezing" a moving subject, but the results can be more striking if you capture the motion as well as the moment. The winner of this contest will present the composition that best incorporates motion as a design element."

So it seems that motion is what the originator had in mind....

Just my 0.015 euro.

Good point. The contest was for 14 days, which is now up. I'll set up a poll so we can all vote. The poll will run for a couple of days to give all timezones a chance to view.

Default kinetic energy competition Poll

OK - there are plenty of great entries here, so take your time and vote for your favourite. Remember that does not include voting for yourself! The poll will close in 3 days time (07 October).

Best of luck!

Thanks for quoting the lead post, Dave! I've been offline for the last 2 weeks, so I wasn't able to clarify the scope of the contest, but I'm very impressed with the submissions. Most of the entries are just what I had hoped for.

It seems my answer to your post has disappered. Oh well... either it disappeared on it's own or it had help... although I don't know why it would have had help. All I said was... ah, never mind, it wasn't important anyway. I wish the particapants luck in the vote.

It's on page 2 of this thread.

That was the one I voted for by the way.

Congratulations go to....

Kevin!

- you are the winner of the Kinetic Energy competition !

I'm sure Jay has a bumper prize (OK, a 'bumper sticker') for you, and well done to all the other entrants even if it was a runaway victory .

I guess we now need another themed contest. I'm sure this can be discussed by the mods, but if anyone has any snazzy ideas then please post here.

Thanks go out to all who voted and participated in this contest.* This shot was taken on a 25 mile (40.5 km) bike ride
through rural Montcalm County, MI USA. This particular bike is quite stable at speed, so it was fairly easy to take my
time to frame the shot. I just sold the C5050z (great little camera) that I utilized to capture this shot.

Looking forward to seeing the many entries in the next contest....

Congratulations Keven, well deserved win. Everytime I look at the bike racing along the street I get dizzy. :P From the looks of the handlebars, I am sure you did not crash trying to put your camera away :

Maybe the next competition could be the opposite of blurred motion and a " motion freeze " competition ...
