Default Best Bird Challenge

Hello all,

This challenge starts today and ends Sunday 8-28-5 at midnight. Post your best bird pic. This includes humming birds.

I will then compile the photos and post a link with the pics and have everyone vote on their favorite bird and post the winner. The pics will be numbered and you will just need to message me the number you pic as the best.

So lets see those bird pics. Voting will not start until I have compiled the pics after the challenge is over and posted the link to them.

This isn't an amazing or fabulous picture or anything, but I happened to catch these Canadian Geese at a local park today, and I thought it was kinda cool.

I don't have any birds taken with any of my decent stuff (not my main interest), but I do have this one from the archives. Taken with a Sony F505. which was around 2.2 megapixels. A swan in the local park, about to pinch my lunch. It makes a stark contrast to the super-zoomy bird stuff from RobAmy and Jay*

photosbymorgan2...maybe I'll just call you our mascot man?

I love your picture, the background is absolutely beautiful. The bird is sweet and all, but I keep going back looking at your picture's background of all things! What caused the purpleish in the upper right hand of the frame do you know? I really like your shot.

I like the lines of the water and how they sort of frame him. He looks sad which goes well with the b&w too.

Wow, before I read what you posted I thought you'd just done a bunch of shots of the same bird or something and stitched them together. I like it.

Jay, I love your picture. It has so much saturation of colour to it and the reflection looks unreal it is so clear. The line of the bird's head and beak goes along with the light stick to the right of the picture. The blue and green in the picture are just lovely. Great shot.

Paul, I actually like your picture. In spite of the low res and everything the bird manages to keep a sense of elegance that swans are chock full of. Although, it looks as if someone had a hold of this guy around his neck a bit ago. And heck, the colours of his (her?) beak are really quite pretty if you can get past the big black bulbus bit over his nose.

Paul - I like how the water is beading up on the bird's head, and I like the colors. Interesting perspective too.

Sara - Seth thought the same thing when I showed him the picture with all the geese about to land. He kept saying, "How did you do that?" And I thought, "I just pointed and clicked when I heard them coming!"

Sara, I'm so happy you commented on mine too - I was feeling a bit left out . * This is a local swan, so goodness knows what kind of life he's led. A bit of trivia - did you know that all mute swans in the UK are owned by the Queen? I'd hate to think what would happen if someone was caught harming one - probably locked up in the Tower of London...

Don't worry...if I'm going to go through commenting on all but one photo in a thread, something is wrong with me...that would be just plain rude I think

I had heard that she owned them all. I've had some ancestors in the tower before...wouldn't be a surprise to get chucked in there myself. I'm related to Guilford Dudley who married Lady Jane Grey (queen for 9 days). Some of the graffiti in the tower is Guilford's where he carved Jane into a wall before Bloody Mary had the two of them executed. I'm also related to I think his name was Jack Wild(e?). He was a HUGELY successful criminal, but I certainly don't think they ever got him in the tower, he wasn't classy enough for that. The Scotland Yard let him run around for a long time because he was very tempermental and whenever he got annoyed with one of the people in his gang he'd turn them over to be hung, so he was quite handy for them in getting rid of the thugs around town.
