I just have to ask, was this two images photoshopped into one? Somehow the child looks exposed differently than the "mother" The lighting on the two portions just seems odd to me. Not to take away from the coolness of the final product, but was that kid really standing there?

No, this is one image converted to b&w in photoshop. I think what your seeing is that the child is really fair skinned and mom is quite dark also the main light was camera left which is leaving him a little "hot" by comparison. Thanks for the question though Songman

Well knowing that its one image really adds to the wow factor. I first said, "That's a bang-up composite job". Thanks for the explanation about the lighting. You were right, those were the two issues I was looking at.
