The gallery isn't factored into the POTW decisions.

Why it is not is a long drawn out discussion. The short version is we have a bunch of members who only use the free gallery portion of their membership. What we want (would like) is to create and have the best and friendliest Photo Forum on the internet.

With that said, we would like people to participate in our Forums. Part of that reward (along with Camel Karma) is a chance to be recognized for POTW.

POTW isn't necessarily the absolute best image posted in a given week (always subjective). But it is a high quality image, and one that we hope others agree with it and appreciate it.

If we tried to find the best one to fit the POTW space, this wouldn't win. It would need to be mirrored about the vertical axis so it doesn't look like it is flying off the page

Suffice it to say, we try and we are doing better at POTW than we used to do. So, if you don't post, you won't win.

I don't claim to view every image posted in any given week and rarely agree with the selection (especially when it comes from a genre that I don't understand) but this one struck me as way beyond obvious as POTW. I suppose those of you who never have tried to shoot tiny, high speed objects with reflective surfaces might fail to appreciate how many things had to fall in line to make this shot work. I hope there was a certain amount of luck assisting the photographer because if this was 100% skill, the rest of us are in serious trouble.
