I went to the San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets game on Sunday with my new play camera, a Lumix FZ8. I was four rows from the end zone so I was able to get some neat pics and decided to paint this one.

Don't know what that Peterson guy was talking about. He really sounds negative about something. I wonder if he is feeling guilty about some of the things he said about that Rodeoshooter a couple of weeks ago. I saw his comments about Rodeoshooter and thought Peterson was all wet after comparing his pictures on his website to those on Rodeoshooter's websites.

Sorry, back on task, I think you did a very good job with this. Not sure how to give karma but if I knew you would get some.

Very nice shot. And love the way you turned it into a painting. Took a great shot and turned it into an even better piece of art

When I do these paintings, I don't duplicate the photo then apply a filter then erase where I want detail, I actually try to move (smudge) each pixel using different brushes and sizes to create a painted look. Heres a close-up portion to show some of the detail.

Jack - I intended no negative comment on your image. I was simply saying that there are some here on the camel who really don't seem to like the idea of turning photographs into "paintings". Just a friendly warning - nothing else.

Johnny - don't know what you're talking about. I remember commenting that some folks here are very harsh in their criticisms, but not comparing my work favorably against another photographer's. If you believe that my photographs are inferior to Rodeoshooters or to anyone else's, then that's ok - I'd probably be the first to agree with you. But I can also believe that your post was misleading and in poor taste - I'd probably be right.

I have no doubt this is what you meant, but why would people that didn't like this type of thing be hanging out in the "Photo Illustration & Digital Art" section to start with?

Nice job on the Favre shot. I'm not big into the painting thing, but you've done a fine job with it.

Thats the fun of photography in general is to have fun and try new things. Sometime it works and sometime it doesn't. I show about 3% of the pictures I take here on the Camel for that reason, the other 97% suck! I appreciate any and all comments and would never take one personally.

I'm about the toughest person there is to try to impress because I see competition level images almost daily, but I can say without reservation that I LOVE IT!!

It's the best image I've seen posted in the digital art section in quite awhile.
The mixture of warm and cool colors are fantastic.
Looks like a big poster you'd see in a team shop at the mall.

It's absolutely beautiful.
I can see this being sold as a fine art print on water color paper.

Tell me, was this done in Painter or Photoshop?

Thanks Mark. I used Painter for the background and PS for Brett. I hope to learn painter more in depth soon. It would be a real asset to know. Brett was painted with the smudge tool in PS.

Fantastic work.

I'm determined to learn Painter myself.
I bought Painter X and will be assisting with a Painter Class at the Texas School of Professional Photography in April.

Take my advice,..blow this baby up, as big as you can, display it as a sample of your work. It's VERY impressive.
