I did a bit a lot of looking into 30's and 40's high key work and wanted to do something with an high art feel.
Please let me know how this strikes you. I would like to improve on this style. ![]() Thanks for looking. __________________

I'm not a big fan of this one... I can see what you wanted to do with it and it's an excellent idea, but this particular photo doesn't do anything for me...
I think it's because the larger elephants heads are not detailed, the tops are disappearing... and the one on the left is missing his trunk... you can see where it was supposed to be, but it's not there... I think if their heads were complete and the trunks in view, then this would be perfect. But, as always, this is just my very amatuer perspective. |

Thanks Dianna this is the type of reply I like. This is a style for high key where the subject is totally clipped ,but You answered my question is it something people can be comfortable looking at. Styles change so much over time and its hard to bring back something that was vouge once.. thanks for your honesty. |

It isn't that it's clipped that is the problem, it's where it's clipped that is the problem. Areas that lack detail seem to create questions rather than simplify the image, and I'm thinking that is the opposite effect that you'd want for this.

I think that High Key....or any other Key.....has to add something to the image. This image would be more interesting to me in full colour and no "key" at all. I can't see how it's improved by the effect......respects...Bob

I think the goal is reproduce low dynamic range (high contrast), rather than exhibit high key. Perhaps you might like the high contrast B&W action contained in the TLR actionset: Digital Darkroom @ The Light's Right Studio

This image isn't hi-key as much as it is hi-contrast.
But I LOVE the artistic feel it presents. Creative matting will make this an excellent art piece. __________________
