I think you've done very well...the first shot is great. Lots of light hitting the eyes, they're nice and sharp. Great job!

I'm getting more out of it than the shelter. Romping with the dogs AND taking photographs- can't ask for more fun.
Thank you! Quote:
From the dogs, not the equipment, right? |

I think you did fine. I do a TON of rescue work for shelters/rescues around Houston. In fact, headed out tomorrow to do some more. I always, always let the dogs/cats do their own things. I don't like 'holding' them in place...you're wanting to capture their personality to get them homes.

I am always outdoors...it has the best lighting, especially since MOST of your subjects are mobile! ...and crazy mobile at that!
I was at a cat sanctuary recently and the kitties did their own thing. I simply worked around them not wanting to disturb them. Cats are definitely more difficult, because they don't respond well to the baby talk and treat bags like dogs. Hahaha! If you're in a shelter type environment, put them in a room where there's the least amount of scary distractions and decent surroundings, let the cat explore...go more candid on cats. I use my wide angle lens because there are some dogs that you can't get near because they cower (scary camera) or they jump and go nutsy (and break camera). It gives me the close up I need from a good distance away if required. I hardly ever use a flash for pets. Here are some cats: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...17520475_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...76626243_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...36609982_n.jpg Here are some dogs: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...88222939_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...33782437_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...55701300_n.jpg If you, yourself, cannot be quicker...use a faster shutter speed. I generally sit in one place...and let the dog/cat do its own thing...eventually, they forget you're there and that's when you'll get the best personality out of them...their own. I would MUCH rather photograph animals all day than people. :/ |
