Not on an S-10 but I bought it and used it for about 2 months on my D100.

That lens probably has the least amount of distortion of any of the 12-24 lenses out there, including my $900 Nikon 12-24 f/4.

My reason for returning it and swapping it for the Nikon was primarily the use of filters outdoors. I was going on a couple of trips to Mexico (Cancun and Cabo) and I knew I'd need filters for outdoor shots.

Nikonfreak,

I have heard that filters will not work on this lens, because of the glass bulge out the front. If you put a step-up ring on it, and then a filter, do you remember if it would clear? Or is the bulge to big? Or would it then vignette?

If you use a Cokin "A" adapter, then you should be O.K., otherwise it will vignette. They are a square filter and quit large so you can clear the frame.

Yeah, I got a Cokin so I know about them. I don't use them all the time though, and was thinking more about a UV ("protective") filter for it. On the Cokin, you can put a "rotating" filter, or the Cokin "flat shield" pretty near the lens, so I would imagine that it would hit the lens on this Sigma, but don't know?

Yep, I've heard that you can get a Cokin to jury rig, but I don't remember if the front of the lens was threaded or not.

I believe it would vignette at the very short end, but would go away quickly (something like vignette at 12 and gone at 13mm) or something like that. I also remember someone saying that they had to saw off the Cokin filter holder to make it thinner. I never did try it.

I always wondered about even if I did manage to get a filter on it what the effect would be given the almost bullet shaped front element of the lens with another piece of glass with a heck of a lot of air in between.

It really is a good lens though. If I were only using it indoors, I wouldn't blink twice about owning it.

Julio
