Default Curious, Samsung anyone?

Does any Camelian use the Samsung DSLR? If so, please share your experience and some pics, I have a co-worker bent on getting one and I promise to run it by the community first so she can get a good indication of what she is buying. They seem to be priced very well and we get an employee discount since they are clients of the firm.

I have a Samsung Gx10 which I love - the only problem with them is lens are slightly harder to get, for me anyway, but you can use the older Pentax lens with it and they have some lovely glass if you don't mind manual focusing

I have a flickr account here - now I am just a newbie to photography but there is a group of people that use the GX 10 and the Kd 10 ( the pentax ) and the pictures there are fantastic. That group is here

I took this one with my Gx10 and a 50mm 1.9 lens I got from ebay

You must have had that wide open for this pic, huh? Looks great, though, thanks for sharing.

Amber, the dead give away was the narrow depth of field. It looks like a well lit day, I recommend stopping the lens down a little, say F/4 or so and you will notice more of the picture will be in focus.

I am getting better I know stop down more now, especially taking the kids , they move to quick for a low aperture to be honest.
I am taking a class now to improve but I can tell you the Samsung can take amazing picture even with a novice like me behind it so imagine how good it could be in the hands of someone with a modicum of talent

Actually, a low aperture, means a wider opening, hence a faster shutter speed, so it will actually benefit you if you want to shoot moving kids. But if they are posing and you want a deeper DOF, then stopping down would widened the CoC putting more things in focus. Have you read this book:Amazon.com: Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera (Updated Edition): Bryan Peterson: Books ?

I actually have just got that book - it is amazing but I am dyslexic so it is slow reading. I am determined to understand this camera of mine.

It lays very good fundamentals on the first step in a series of steps to getting great pictures. Composition would be the logical next step. I've read somewhere once, that it takes a few years to master exposure, but a lifetime to master the composition.

They're basically Pentax bodies with different button shapes and redesigned menus. In other words, that's a good thing. Pentax makes some fine equipment that offers good performance, especially for the price.

I'm pretty sure all Samsung models released before the GX-20 (Pentax K20D) use Sony sensors.

Ah, explains the Pentax mount, what crop factor does it use? Both pre and post GX-20?

1.5x/APS-C. The GX-20's sensor size is 23.4 x 15.6mm, with previous models using a 23.5 x 15.7mm (according to DPReview).

So it is basically the Noink sensor or more specifically, the Sony. Thanks.
