i sent the rebate in for the student rebate on 5/12/2008. it is now 6/7/2008. they still tell me they didn't get it. i sent emails and they tell me they need the ser#, ups, and receipt. i only have copies. they wanted the original. so i guise i won't be getting the rebate. i also have the receipt from the post office but i didn't send it certified mail.

Pentax is not much different from most manufacture's rebates that I've experienced. Never got mine for a Pentax K10D and glass over a year ago. But I've never had luck with any manufacture getting there rebates, only store rebates is all I've ever gotten back. I also really didn't expect to get a rebate from Pentax when I made the purchase due to past experiences with manufacture's rebates.

I have had good luck with other company rebates. I think out of the 100 or more I sent in, I didn't get one. After a few calls to pentax I was able to get a conformation number. But now I sent 3 more on the student program. We will see if I get the money. They owe me $250 now. I also sent an email to there support and they never responded.

I received all rebates from Pentax - for AF540 flash, K10D and 31mm LTD. This was three separate occasions so I have some confidence in their system. I have not had the same success with other items so I have concluded that the rebate systems are run by folks with no discretion to deviate from the rules – and who make no effort to confirm what they have received. When responding to rebates now I now make sure that I offer them no opportunity to make a mistake. This includes taping receipts, cut bits of boxes with UPAC codes and any other scraps from Point of Sale receipts onto a full sheet of paper, numbering each item and pointing out in an attached letter that they have received it. It takes an extra 5 minutes but so far it has worked with Pentax.
