Default Front Focus Issue?

I would like some opinions on the following series of shots, where I'm testing to see if my camera has a front focus issue. These were all taken on a tripod, aperture priority with the widest setting each lens would take. No flash. I never noticed this issue with just my kit lens (18-70mm), but last week I got a couple new lenses and they both seem to be focussing in front of where I want them to. I e-mailed KM and received a very prompt reply with instructions on doing a test like I've done below. (All these pictures were cropped to show approx. the same area, but nothing else was done to them.) I've got the necessary info for sending in the camera for an adjustment, but I just wanted to hear what others thought regarding these shots, as unscientific as they may be.

I focussed on the center box each time. The lens I used is in the name of each shot. Where do you find the focus to be??

Thanks!

Elaine

18-70 f/3.5-5.6 (kit lens - I don't see an issue here...just posted to compare to the others.)

Don't you just hate these kinds of issues?

The pic to the right seems the sharpest to me, but the lettering is also largest there.

Thanks, JD. And YES, I hate these kinds of issues!! I was so excited to have new lenses and then I was so disappointed at what I was seeing. Sigh...I guess it is very fixable, but it means sending my camera all the way across the country for who knows how long?! :P I just hope they get it right the first time!

I've resigned myself to the reality that because camera equipment goes out of whack, there's frequently going to be something in the shop.

It is somewhat consoling to hear that others have to deal with repair issues as well!

You mentioned that you had cropped all the images so that they would appear the same size on-screen. That leaves the question of what part of the image the camera was focusing on and whether it was possible that the nearest panel was within that area. If the central panel is small enough in the original image, something like that could happen. I am also assuming that you set the camera to focus only on the central part of the image.
