I have a Nikon N80 QD. I'm not a photographer, just like taking family shots, primarily. I'm sure any real photographer would probably hate either of these lenses. But for a hack, like me, lol, aren't they good enough?
The allure of a single lens to do everything is strong. If they're both really crummy, O.K., I'll forget about them. I have a Nikkor 28-80 that came with the N80. I could always supplement it with a Nikkor 70-300. But if you think a 28-300 would do the trick for me, which would you prefer? The Sigma or Tamron? Retail on the Tamron is about $100 more than the Sigma. Used eBay prices seem to be about the same. __________________

I have a Sigma 28-300 that I've used on my Nikon D70 and D200. It has fairly good IQ, but not nearly as good as a zoom with less range. And I've actually been thinking about selling it because I just don't use it anymore. As an all-in-one lens, it isn't that bad.

I've got a Tamron 28-300 on my Pentax IstDL and I really like it. I know there are probably better lenses on the market but at a much higher price. The only thing I wish was that the lens was a little faster, but then there's that higher price thing again.

I just bought a Sigma 18-200 OS for my Canon Rebel XTi. Got it a few days ago, but haven't done much more than play around inside due to the rain. So far, I like what I see, but i think for inside shots it isn't going to be good. I don't have an external flash, and I am seeing what I think is shadow from the lens...Time will tell. I am hoping that Sunday will be nice enough to get out and go shooting.
