Default Re: Any excitement over the Sigma DP-1?

I finally did some interior shots, and tried to make a few comparison shots with the Pentax K20D, before bringing the DP1 back to the shop as it was only for testing.

I took the photos on both camera in RAW and converted the DP1 with the SPP converter, the Pentax photos with an early beta version of Silkypix supporting the K20D. As lens on the K20D, I used a Sigma 10-20.

Especially on the interior shots, the white balance was quite different on both cameras. The results of the K20D were in general too warm, while the results of the DP1 were too cold. During the RAW conversion, I tried to adjust white balance to obtain similar and comparable results.

For those interested, the photos are under Sigma DP1 vs Pentax K20D Photo Gallery by Dominique Schreckling at pbase.com. Below each photo is a link to the RAW file (but mind you, neither the RAW of the DP1 nor those of the K20D are widely supported in converters).

I am really surprised about the result of the DP1, it really managed the situation well, even at 800iso. The DP1 are a bit less noisy at 800iso than the K20D, but when looking at the EXIF data for exposure, for the same shutter time, at 800iso, the DP1 exposed at f4 while the K20D exposed at f5.6.

Great comparisons Dominique. The K20D had the most immediate impact, though I think the added contrast made the difference. Looking at the castle shot it seems the DP-1 is picking up more detail - when looking at the brickwork in the pointed roof for example.

I prefer the rendering of the K20D also, punchier colors and better contrast. As for details, I will first have to compare the Sigma 10-20 to my other lenses, the 10-20 is brand new and I did not have the time to check it.
