I downloaded some SD-14 RAW files and they opened in Lightroom just fine. Maybe their RAW format is more consistent than others.

I don't quite understand the usefulness of having a 28mm equiv fixed to a camera. What if one wanted to take a portrait of a friend or a colleague at work? This is difficult enough with a 35mm equiv.
This camera could have been perfect with a lens mount. Just my opinion. Sean. |

I must admit the new Olympus E-420 with the 25mm pancake lens could make an attractive alternative to this (assuming the Foveon sensor isn't the main justification for buying). I've an E-400 which is similar in size. With the new pancake lens it'll be an extremely small and lightweight package - but with the option of changing lenses if you want that. You also get the very nice 10mp sensor as found in the E-3. Price is comparable too it seems.

Why can't we get a "large" sensor camera with a lens mount (even range finder lens mount). The electronic viewfinder would be fine, if we had digital 3x magnification, as soon as we touch the focus ring...
Sadly Leica didn't make an update to the Digilux 2 ![]() Sean. |

Depends on how large you want the sensor to be. The 4:3rds or DP-1 sensor is big compared to a P&S for example. If it were a 35mm sized sensor then it would be difficult to keep the size down. For example I couldn't imagine that new pancake lens performing well on such a sensor. I'd personally love a FF sensor + pancake lenses + large optical viewfinder in an OM or RF sized body with great image quality across the frame - but I suspect we'll have to wait a long time for that one.

It looks like Sigma and Amazon either didn't anticipate the demand, or Sigma just didn't produce here. Amazon sent me the dreaded email this morning that the wouldn't be able to fill my order for the DP-1. Estimated delivery is sometime in the next two to three months. I canceled.
This gives me a bad feeling about Sigma and makes me re-think wanting this thing. I may just get on B&H's website and order a Jobo rotary processor and shoot more film. Bob |

Yea, I thought about just ordering from another source. But it was just such a letdown after pre-ordering and all that. It gave enough time to think about whether I really wanted one or not. And I'm at the point where I'm disappointed with Sigma for not meeting their end of the deal. Maybe they don't need my money after all.

I was doing some reading on dpreview and it SOUNDED like the ones from amazon were being sold through 47th St Photo and we all know what their reviews are like. And then I saw where some people actually did get some DP-1s shipped from 47th st photo so I'm not really sure what happened with Amazon? I dunno, but i'm not so sure I'd blame Sigma in full. Try reading the Sigma forum on dpreview if you haven't yet. You might find something I didn't in my quick overview last night.

All I have read was the DP-1 is very hard to beat in outdoor shooting. Colors and all that just jump out. Indoor shooting with little light makes the AF suffer a lot. Not surprising because a lot of cameras suffer. Some say it suffers worse than 90%, but some say it is about like the other "sufferers". Either way, if it takes great photos, and one can live with the compactness and single focal length, it seems like it is hard to beat.
I have read a lot of good things about 47th Street Photo actually. Not a ton of reviews for them, but they have a better lifetime rating than Adorama.... |

I am having the chance to be able to test a DP1 this weekend. Being interested in the camera, my usual shop managed to get the camera of the local Sigma rep for a weekend.
I am pretty impressed by the image quality delivered by this camera. In case interested, the results so far can be found underSigma DP1 Photo Gallery by Dominique Schreckling at pbase.com. All photos have been taken in RAW. |
