I have heard good things about this lens and currently, it is at the top of my Christmas list.
However, I (and at least one other Camel) would like to hear the pros and cons of this piece of glass.Intended use on a Nikon D-70S. Thanks __________________

Hi, I use mine on a D70s and a D80.
The pros: (IMHO) * Good solid build * Fantastic depth of field, bringing a new dimension to landscape photography (and interiors) * Reasonable price for a lens of this quality * Silent motor * Quick autofocus (doesn't have too far to travel) * Good minimum focusing distance (9") I love mine, possibly the best lens I own. The cons: again IMHO * I have still to find one (Only thing to watch out for is verticals at close subject distances - but this is not aimed at this lens, just something to consider with an ultra wide-angle lens) Hope this was of some benefit. With mine on Canon bodies I have experienced vignetting and distortion at the edges of the images. These were mostly interior shots where lighting was not optimal.
Outdoors it has done well. However I had some stock photo submissions rejected due to higher than acceptable artifacts even though they were shot in RAW. I'm not necessarily blaming the lens for that, as it could have been my fault somewhere. |

So I am considering this very lens. I was about to buy the Nikon 10-24mm but it is expensive for what it is. While I have no problem paying top dollar for anything of quality I have to question if (aside from the name) it is worth the price. The Sigma gives me a good alternative at a very good price. But I have never owned a Sigma.

I have this lens in a Canon mount. I love on my cropped bodies.

The build quality of the lens is very good, silent focusing is very nice, and it can even take a few bangs and hits not too badly. Shooting outdoors at f/8-f/11 gets you very sharp results, I only wish it was faster indoors.

I think you will love it. With a crop cam, you can not get the equivalent FOV with any other lens, at this price and quality without looking in a fisheye lens. At least on a Canon mount. I know the EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-5.6 USM exists, but at $200 more, I would opt for the f/3.5 constant, provided as the other poster said, the IQ is up to par.

[QUOTE=RaulB;879207]i was looking at purchasing the newer version of this lens.. wanted to see if Normie1 received it already and what he thought about it[/QUOTE
Yes I did receive mine and I love it. Shooting outside it has very little or no distorition and is sharp and is very quiet when focusing. I think if you try it you will like it. The first time I used it I did some night shots and was very pleased. |
