I have an old Minolta HTSi film slr with a 28 - 50 and a 50 - 300mm lens. Both are AF. I'm pretty sure I could use the lens with a Minolta 5D or 7D, but does anyone know if the lens will work with any other brand of camera?
I'm in the thinking stage of a new DSLR and would really like to get one that I can use the old lens with. If I could save then money on a lens and put it towards a camera body, it would be nice. I was thinking about a Nikon D40 or a Canon Rebel or XTi. Thanks everyone. By the way, I currently have a Konica Minolta A2. __________________

I should work with the "old" Minolta DLSR's, and the current Sony DSLR's. The latest Sony one seems like a pretty good camera with a lot of "goodies" (dust shaker and IS) and a Nikon sensor.
You could mate the lenses with an adapter and use on different branded cameras (like Olympus), but you would lose the AF portion. |

Hi lviperz,
If those lenses are Minolta A-type, then they'll work with the sony alpha 100 and new alpha 700 camera (the alpha 700 has been very positively reviewed). Alternatively, there also an MD to A-type adaptor. So as a first pass, Sony might be a good option to look at. As for the use of the minolta lenses on Nikon, the biggest problem is that the lenses on Minolta cameras sit closer to the film plane (AF: 44.5 mm, MD: 43.5 mm) than they do on Nikon. For Nikon, the F-mount distance is 46.5 mm (I might have to go check that again, but the general relationship to the Minolta distances is still correct). As a result, there aren't any adaptors for Minolta lenses that I'm aware of that are commercially available and ready to go to connect to Nikon. For Canon, I'm not sure, so hopefully someone else with knowledge of Canon can help out. Regards, Peter __________________
