I received my 5D yesterday and this my first SLR or DSLR or any camera I can take the lense off of. My first and only camera before this one is my Minolta S414 point and shoot.

I jumped in head first with this camera......it has been winning the war of good pictures. I've feel like I've won a couple of battles though with a few good shots.

I've forced myself to test all the functions and really understand them (as well as reading non-stop the past week waiting for delivery) instead of just putting her in AUTO mode and snapping away.

Anyway, here is a decent shot on my second day. Please let me know what you think,

Josh

I like the contrast of the red and silver, and nice depth of field. Very festivey!

Thanks Paul,
Honestly, I had to look up what depth of field meant. (didn't retain that term from the book but now I think I have locked in) I've been practiceing in Aperture mode mainly so I think I'm starting to get the hang of the limits I can work with. I think light is the main one right?

I havne't had much luck with the shutter mode yet because everytime I tray to take pics of the dog in shutter mode, they don't move. Of course, they won't stop moving when I'm trying to get a portrait style shot of them. Dogs are hard to get pictures of...at least mine are. And the wife won't even begin to entertain the idea of running around the house just so I can take pictures in shutter mode.

This camera is a blast!

Thanks again for your advice,

Josh

Hey there!

Welcome to photocamel...and to photography in general and to photoshop and to the world of exchangable lenses! Unfortunately I'm not able to view your pic at the moment. Congrats on your new KM 5D! Sounds like you're having lots of fun. Reading and experimenting is the best way, I've found, to learn a lot quickly. And there's usually someone here who can answer any questions. I've warmed them up for you!
Glad to have you on board!

Elaine

Thanks Elaine,
I just took the picture out of my gallery to make room for the speed challenge. Is there a way you can pay and get more space on the site or is just a set amount?

Thanks for warming them up for me...I've been burning up the keyboard and photoshop trying to learn some tricks.

I'm sure i'll be bugging you for info soon enough...and thanks for the warm welcome,

Josh

P.S. I love my 5D by the way

Hmmm...to be totally honest, I don't know enough about the gallery side of PhotoCamel to answer your question right now! Sorry! However, did you know that you can embed an image into your post by clicking "Additional Options" under the text box of your post? Then you just browse your computer for the correct image (make sure you stay under 128kb per post), click "Post" and...presto posto! Your image is included with your text. Let me know if this is as clear as mud!

Elaine

You're doing great so far! I really love the lighting in nbr1. A classic expression too.

Here's my first attempt at a panoramic. Not really exciting but it was fun to do. I may post this in the general area...let me know what ya'll think,

That's an amazingly wide view - how many degrees is it? I'd love to see a larger picture, but that's always the problem with panoramics - the width can get too wide to be comfortable when viewing on a web browser.

Paul,
It's 360 degrees but you really can't tell with the way it looks. Also, it's a large rolling field so the depth perception is correct and it doesn't look funny because of the stitching. I'll try to post a larger version soon...I'm uploading it now. Thanks for liking it...I'm still a little timid of postiong on here sometimes....there's so much talent.

Did you click on the link directly below the picture on my original post? It will download it where you can zoom in on it and scroll. Not very high resolution but not horrible either. If you want the full file to look at, I can email it to you.

Josh
